Panthers near deal with Armanti Edwards

(By Darin Gantt, [email protected]) The Panthers are about to reduce their remaining workload again, as they're set to sign third-round pick Armanti Edwards as soon as this afternoon, according to sources with knowledge of the negotiations.p/ That would give them eight of their 10 draft picks under contract, with only second-round QB Jimmy Clausen and third-round WR Brandon LaFell to go and three weeks before the first practice (July 29).

It's got to be hard writing these contracts with no idea what the new CBA is going to look like. On one hand you would think the teams want some sort of flexibility, but that wouldn't be in the players best interests.

I'm sure the excitement Gantt had with being able to finally write that Edwards is that much closer to being a Panther probably ranked up there with the day he lost his virginity...assuming that's already happened.

No way. Clausen saw his stock drop into the middle of the second round, so he's got something to prove. Any sort of holdout only proves that people might have been right.

If Clausen has a good agent, he won't try to get that money now. I think that would hurt the start of his career....and I don't know if a questionable guy like that can handle all that. He went late.....absurd payday will have to be earned now.
