Joe Person: Panthers really like Mason Graham and Jalon Walker

Recommended Posts

Pearce:

Per another report from Cory Kinnan, Pearce was "seen as undeniably uncoachable" at Tennessee, where he had "one foot out the door" last season. One NFL scout said that Pearce has "the worst character report of any player in this draft class."

A TOTALLY UNBIASED report from a Tennessee Vols website relating to a SI report states the following, based on conversations with GMs:

"He doesn't fight with his hands very well right now. You see the build, and the traits, his arm length, but you see him winning with those traits alone." Sources went on to express concern about general run game instincts as well. "He has a hard time right now recognizing pullers, shrinking space and defeating blocks in the run game."

There have been rumors relating to character concerns as a potential reasoning, one NFL GM quickly extinguished that. "There are no character concerns that we are aware of. He wants to be great," one NFL GM told Vols on SI exclusively.

Even if no offensive players are taken, that means that half of the guys listed below will still be on the board:

  • Travis Hunter
  • Abdul Carter
  • Mason Graham
  • Jalon Walker
  • Tyler Warren
  • Malaki Starks
  • Jahdae Barron
  • Donovan Ezeiruaku
  • Will Johnson
  • Mike Green
  • Jihad Campbell
  • Will Johnson
  • Mykel Williams
  • James Pearce Jr
  • Colston Loveland
  • Derrick Harmon

And that's not including guys like Tet, Burden III, and others. Not a bad problem to have! 😄

Walter Nolen:

A to Z Sports--"The biggest test for Nolen in Indianapolis is to sell himself as a person to teams. There is some worrisome feedback regarding character for Nolen, which goes back to his high school days, and continued both at Texas A&M and with the [Ole Miss] Rebels. There are even a couple of NFL teams who have already taken Nolen off their boards."

His work ethic is also questioned, but I could not find specifics.

Was Warren a mistake?

i can see the pats going offense, they will have their pick of top OT, WR, and RB. the jags defense was terrible last year. the only chance mason has of getting past them is if they decide to go CB. their pass defense was worse than their run D, and they did give up an ass ton of receiving TDs, so they just might do that.

Interesting.  I have heard both are not sold on these qbs--but this time of year, you hear everything.  They are both taking a QB, but not sure 100% yet that means at #1 or #2. In the video below, the blonde woman on the left provides "back handed" compliments that I see as negatives to Sanders in Cleveland if she represents the masses. I have heard (someone from Ohio and this was at least 2 weeks ago) that they like Will Howard and may trade the pick or take Will Howard in the second round.  These Cleveland reporters explain that dynamic at the end of this video:

No way would I take Sanders and I could be very wrong but Cleveland is screwed with Watson for next season (injury) and the following (cap hit). They could wait or get a vet so like you said…more to come

No sir, he's one of the best prospects in this draft. If the team fills in the holes via free agency to set themselves up to take BPA he fits the bill. Was making the point that any of those guys would make the Panthers better, so no need to move up from #8 or wring our hands over missing out on somebody. Plenty of quality talent will be there at #8 (or in the middle of the round if the team trades back... 👀)

He might be great, but man, you are drafting the drama, glitter, baggage, Dad, etc. along with the player. One Browns reported described Sanders at the Combine presser: (paraphrasing) "His hat was backwards and sideways, he had two diamond necklaces around his neck..." Cam Ward is almost the exact opposite.  Sanders takes credit for turning around Colorado, but his Dad pulled in 23 portal transfers.  I dunno. I don't want to sound like a hater, but I just don't get a good vibe with him.  Now, the Browns might try to trade back a few spots (let a team like the Raiders, Giants, Jets) move up.  Their needs?  Edge, even before Garrett wanted a trade.  DT (Graham could be on the table) and OT.  I could see them taking Carter and then moving up for Dart or sitting still in round 2 for QB Howard.

No, It was my mistake--I did not read your intro correctly.  thought it was a list of "no offensive guys".  my bad.

The JPJ character concerns thing is weird and not going away. lol WalterFootball, but they also continue to put that out there, even more so post-combine:

talent-wise, I think he’s edge2 but who knows what’s up with the smoke.

Nice link- Tyleik my man, word may get out on him.  Best run-d talent and at arguably are most important area of need.

Williams has not gotten the media attention he deserves, as there are a lot of NFL evaluators who really like him. Some have him as a potential late first-rounder, and he is unlikely to get out of the second round. Williams was superb in the field drills at the combine, showing quickness, agility, and power in a large body. This combine performance verifies what Williams put on tape with the Buckeyes.
