theres more to being the best MLB in the league, let alone the division than making tackles

Go back and watch some film of Ruud and get back to me. Several members of the media lobbied for him to be elected to the pro-bowl last year. He does a lot more than just make tackles.

dont need to. i just found it hilarious that someone would suggest that Rudd was better than Beason because he made 1 more tackle. because Beason had 3 sacks to Rudd's 0. and 3 interceptions to Rudd's 1. not to mention 10 passes defended to Rudds 8. and stats aside, Beason >>Rudd. and that is well known around league

If that is what you think you got a much different message than intended. I used the stats on tackles because they offer a perspective on comparable measures. The sack totals are easily explained because in the Tampa 2 defense that Tampa runs exclusively the middle linebacker is typically 10 to 15 yards off the line on almost all pass plays and not in position for sacks. Plus they rarely blitz in that defense.

As for passes defended, Beason had 7 passes defended which was the same as Ruud. So using your logic you think that Beason is much better because he had 2 more Ints?

Again I am not saying Ruud is better than Beason. I am simply pointing out that contrary to the poster I was discussing this with, Beason is not on a plane by himself and there are a number of informed intelligent folks who believe Ruud is every bit as good as Beason. I simply used the tackles as a comparison given that many folks and it sounds as if you are included who follow little else besides the Panthers and actually don't know much about a lot of other teams in the league.

few points

1) Beason had 10 passes defended to rudd's 8-- http://www.nfl.com/stats/categorystats?tabSeq=0&statisticCategory=TACKLES&conference=null&season=2009&seasonType=REG as I said

2) I didn't read your entire response because I wasn't accusing you of anything. Im making a general statement that Beason is better than Rudd w/ and w/o the stats. (even though the stats favor Beason anyway). Im not saying you think one way or the other, im telling you what I think. (and what most people should already know)

On the same NFL site you pasted if you look at player stats individually for Ruud and Beason for 2009 they both say 7 Passes defended.

http://www.nfl.com/players/barrettruud/profile?id=RUU402541

http://www.nfl.com/players/jonbeason/profile?id=BEA530518

I have seen where different sites have different numbers for guys but not two different numbers on the same site. We obviously were looking at 2 different parts of the site. I wonder which is more accurate?? Hard to argue stats when even the same site presents different info. LOL.

Again this gets away from the original point which is that Beason is not so much better than other players in the division or conference that he is on another plane which is what we were discussing.

Beason is, always has been, and always will be better than Rudd.

Plain and simple, end of story. Don't need stats to know that. He plays with heart and doesn't act stupid off the field. Intangibles of Beason are through the damn roof, and the man is just as good as any other MLB in the league, I don't give a damn what stats you throw at me. He's just as good as any of them cause the man shows up when he is needed. (Watch the highlights for the second Bucs-Panthers game last year)

Incorrect. When Raheem Morris was hired they moved away from the Tampa 2 defense and used a cover 2/3 hybrid system last year.

Great response there. Right along with: Stop telling me the facts, I already know the answer!!

Sounds real objective to me, LOL.

Only true for the first 10 games. Morris worked under Kiffin and kept the defense as the Tampa 2. When he took over as head coach he hired Jim Bates as the Defensive coordinator and Bates installed a different alignment up to week 10 and then when it wasn't working and the players were ready to revolt, Morris took over and went back to the Tampa 2.
