Predict the Clausen contract

during the chat.

Just saw the money that Colt Mccoy got, how much money and how many years do you think the panthers will give Jimmy Clausen? Will he be able to demand a lot more then most second rounders because of his position and the fact that he was projected to go so high?

Pat Yasinskas (2:52 PM)

Think it will be a creative contract with lots of incentives that he can reach if he becomes the starter. It'll be somewhat like the deal Panthers gave Chris Weinke when they drafted him.

I suspect with cost cutting like it is, the FO will be tight with the purse strings. Negotiations began when everyone started praising Cantwell in the media. Don't want to piss anyone off or disrespect Cantwell, but notice how the coaching staff and FO have gone out of their way to praise him.

I think Cantwell has talent but I do think the timing is a bit too convenient.

oh how I love a plausible conspiracy. good post.

Jeez, he's still not signed?

How many first and second rounders are right now?

I know of one first rounder (Dez Bryant) and a handful of second rounders.

Factoring in Matt Moore has a 1 year contract... Clausen wants to position himself to be a paid starter next year and not box himself into something less.

Also it is my understanding that the contracts don't begin until the season starts. If that is true, there is no rule that says Clausen has to hold out of training camp until his contract is inked. (Not sure)

He has to sign a contract to practice. Remember Stewart staying in a Motel 6 in Spartanburg until his contract was official?
