Predict the Clausen contract

Beason who was the 28th pick a few years ago got a 5 year 15 million dollar deal. I expect that because Clausen is a quarterback he will get the same kind of money. If he were a defensive back or linebacker it would be much less given it was halfway down the second round.

Stil enough for me to retire on. Clausen may push for a 4 year deal so he gets to free agency faster.

@ 4 years, 3.75 Million, with performance based escalators... If they go the standard route based on recent history...

@ 3 years 2.8 Million, if his agent or himself is more focused on getting a shorter contract in case he can't earn the starting job here...

Anything longer than 4 years and more than 4 million, you can count on Clausen starting sooner, rather than later... You don't make that kind of investment, or accept that kind of deal if you don't have the inside track at being a starter...

Yeah. Quarterbacks almost always get paid more than other players. Given that Clausen was projected on many boards to be a high first rounder that will factor into the negotiations. If Hurney is smart he will not guarantee much of anything and instead give him incentives such as playing time, starts, completions, etc.

Given the austerity budget, we may negotiate harder and this might end up in a holdout if both sides don't agree. Clausen could also take less feeling that he will end up being the starter here but I think we will try and get him signed before training camp. I would be surprised if we do resign Moore no matter how good he plays because he is going to want 7-10 million per year. Compared to that the money paid to Clausen will seem cheap.

The press did a hit job on Clausen that caused him to fade fast in the draft. But it was all intangible and almost none tangible. From a tangible skill perspective, he was one of two quarterbacks considered by the Rams for the number 1 pick.

I think you structure the contract accordingly. Not a lot quaranteed but huge upside if he performs.

McCoy just signed.

Third-round pick Colt McCoy agreed to a four-year deal Thursday worth up to $5 million, according to a league source. The normal slot is approximately $3.275 million. But McCoy got the "quarterback premium," which shows the faith Cleveland has in McCoy as its long-term solution at quarterback.
