A Belated Happy Independance Day...

Recommended Posts

Granted, we didn't actually win independance until the Treaty of Paris in April of 1783 officially ended the Revolutionary War. Nor did we have a unified government until September of 1787 when the U.S. Constitution was ratified. And it didn't even start up until March of 1789 per a timetable set out by the Congress of the Confederation.

No, in true American fashion, we have ignored these red letter milestones in our nation's history in order to make a national holiday out of the day when we stood unified (barely) and, in one voice (sort of), told the most powerful empire in the world to go fug itself.

I love this country.
