Bobcats pursuing former Sun Louis Amundson

Recommended Posts

The Blazers, Knicks, Bulls and Clippers have expressed interest in Spurs free-agent guard Roger Mason, while the Jazz, Nuggets, BOBCATS, Knicks and Heat are pursuing Suns free-agent forward/center Louis Amundson, sources say.

I don't really understand why we are pursuing another Center/Forward with those two positions actually being the only one's set. With four Centers in Chandler, Mohammed, Diop, and Ajinca, and three Power Forwards in Boris Diaw, Tyrus Thomas, and Derrick Brown the Bobcats may know something we don't. I suspect they believe someone is going to take Tyrus Thomas from them or they are preparing to move Diaw or Mohammed or both.

if cheap id really like this, he plays really hard and will fight for all the loose balls. he sets picks, runs the floor and plays solid defense, not a shotblocker but always in the right position. this also allows us to move diaw and still have a solid backup for TT

Brown is definitely more of a SF and not a PF.

He has played Power Forward all his life, he has not once played Small Forward for the Bobcats.

Draft Express has him listed as a Power Forward. Wikipedia (Not very reliable) has him listed as a Power Forward. ESPN has him listed as a Power Forward. Sports Illustrated has him listed as a Power Forward. USA Today has him listed as a Power Forward. I am just stating that his comfortable college position was Power Forward and he has not seen the court enough to change anyone's mind.

Now he could see some time at Small Forward with the Bobcats re-signing restricted free agent Tyrus Thomas.

There is no doubt that PF was his college position and he played some PF in mop up minutes for the Bobs because he is still figuring out how to handle the ball and shoot well from outside. He doesn't rebound well though, so ultimately he either has to substantially bulk up or stay at the SF spot. He does have very similar measurables to G Force.

I think most would agree that his long-term position is as a SF. But I wouldn't be adverse to seeing UPS, G Force, and TT on the court at the same time. That is a super athletic group.

Hell Yeah and Derrick Brown would be an easy transition to SF because he can learn from one of the best in the Force.

And though I think UPS will be played at the 3, I am all for leaving college level PFs at the PF position in the pros if that is where they play better at.

For example, LAC will definitely move Al-Farouq Aminu to the 3 spot in the pros. Why? He was a rebounding machine in college and doesn't yet have the ball handling or shooting skills to play at the 3. But there are concerns about his bulk to play the PF spot in the pros, so he will be slid over to the 3 in the pros.

They may be moving Chandler or Nazr or both.

This. And having depth doesn't always mean that we have quality depth. Amundson has at least proven that he's a decent bench player, and that's more than we can say for Black Shrek and Freedom Fries.
