haha that's exactly what i said a few minutes after it was over.

the crowd was totally dead for a solid 5 minutes because everyone was leaning over to the person next to them saying 'should've been stopped in the first round.'

All I hear from this is....:sad::sad: Sour Grapes maybe.....

“There was a time I was worried, but he [Rosenthal] came to me [before the fight] and said if the fight gets ugly and somebody is in a bad situation, you have to show me you’re still staying alive,” said Lesnar. “It kept going through my mind. Every punch felt less and less.”

because i like discussing mma. what the hell are you talking about?

you can't change results of any panthers games, why on earth would you be on a forum to discuss them?

that was certainly the stupidest post of the day.

who said anything about discussion? im talking about all the people, including yourself that are complaining about the refs decision to not stop the fight in the first round. b*tching about that is pointless. theres a difference between having a discussion and complaining

I'm a new watcher to the sport, but does the fact he was moving his arms/elbows/hands around to partially deflect the punches while he was on his side matter ?

Like I said I am pretty novice, but to me it looks like he is defending, just in a shitty position.

it matters, yes, but only for a reasonable amount of time. if you are in the same position for a full minute like Brock was, then it's reasonable to assume that you've lost the fight and it should be stopped.

by not stopping it when Brock was obviously defeated, the ref basically let Carwin tire himself out by furiously punching for almost a full round, at which point he could hardly stand for round 2 and was taken down easily.

some have said it was similar to Ali's rope-a-dope, but the difference is that Ali was on his feet. Brock was rocked and knocked to the ground and beaten up, he wasn't bobbing and weaving like Ali.

there are a lot of whiners and wwe fanbois in here, so i guess i will add the qualifier "in my opinion" to the post.

oh without a doubt. i think it should happen immediately, but Cain Velasquez is scheduled to fight him next.

i think Carwin will fight the winner of JDS/Roy Nelson, and then get a shot at the winner of Lesnar/Velasquez.

if you google the ref's name (josh rosenthal), there are quite a few news sites talking about this very thing. i'm not making it up because i admittedly dislike Lesnar.

you know if there are news stories about the referee the next day, there is gonna have to be a rematch sooner than later.

I know of no rule in the books that says if a fighter is on the ground defending himself from an attack for any longer than a minute then the fight should be stopped.

You should really stop just being so butt-hurt over this. If you lost a lot of money on this fight then I am sorry. Hopefully you learned a lesson if you did.

Always bet on Lesnar cause he kicks ass.

What is really impressive is that Lesnar has been out of MMA for a year fighting a life threatening illness. He comes back and his first fight he whoops Carwin's ass. Carwin gave Lesnar the best punishment he could dish out and Lesnar ate it, poo it, and fuging choked Carwins ass out.

Did you just google his name or did you actually read any of the reports?

Cause pretty much everything I have read on him is talking about how he did a great job not getting ahead of himself and stopping the fight too soon.

Maybe you can find a story on Carwinfanboy#1.com that will say otherwise.

The ref made the right call in not stopping the fight. Like someone said, most of the GNP Carwin was throwing did not land cleanly. And at no time was Brock out of it. During the exchange, he was defending against Carwin's assault and was patient in letting Carwin punch himself out. If Brock wasn’t defending against the punches, and working to push Carwin away, I might say otherwise, but the fact is he did. He was constantly moving his hands and head to protect himself, and used his legs to try and get some space. That's the definition of intelligently defending yourself. And there is no time limit on this sort of thing.

Brock was clearly very aware the whole time, and since few of the punches were landing cleanly, he wasn’t really taking all that much damage. The whole thing looked worse than it was. Don’t get me wrong, Brock was definitely in trouble, but he was doing everything the rules say he had to to keep the fight from being stopped.
