Ben Gordan possibly on his way to Charlotte

Recommended Posts

Raymond Felton is telling more and more people he's finished in Charlotte . . .he's been contacted by seven teams and his camp plans to reach out to Detroit. The Pistons reportedly want to move Stuckey to the two. Ray's a good guy, but Detroit seems like an odd fit. They have already collected a load of underchievers. Maybe they try to move Ben Gordon to Charlotte in a S&T?

We'd have to make some other moves to shed payroll to get it done. My questions are this: can we trade Stephen Jackson for a starting-caliber PG and are we a clearly better team with the new PG and Gordon at the two? If the answer to both of those questions is yes, then we need to pull the trigger.

Actually they have also been rumored to be getting rid of Charlie V and I think they could trade Boris and Ray for Gordon and Charlie V. I think the salaries would match up.

There's no way I'd want to take Villanueva back, even if it meant dumping Daiw. He's overpaid considering he's a back-up, and Larry Brown would hate starting him because he's neither a tough defender or that good of a rebounder. Ray for Ben Gordon, then we flip Stephen Jackson, who is at his peak value, for a starting PG. That would be a good start to the offseason IMO.

Villanueva never played for us.

They are not offering Stuckey, and no way in hell we get rid of Jax. The thing that would make Villanueva good with Thomas is that Villanueva is good offensive player while Thomas is a good defensive player. So depending on the situation we can just swap them. Villanueva is a hell of a scorer.

I meant get him as the return in a trade, i.e. we sent Felton/Diaw and we get back Gordon/Villanueva. We could start Charlie V at center, although his iffy defense and rebounding would definitely count against him in LB's eyes. For the short-term success of the team, it would be a good move, but it may end up putting us in more cap hell down the road.

And Thomas isn't a bad scorer in his own right. He averaged 16.7 points per 36 minutes this year.

And there is a way that we get rid of Stephen Jackson: if it makes our team better. Right now Stephen Jackson is at his peak value. He was a model citizen here and helped lead a down-and-out franchise to its first playoff appearance. His value will never be higher and we should look to capitalize on that if we can get a player like Ben Gordon to take his place. I'd rather have a legitimate starter at PG to go with Ben Gordon than DJ Augustin and Jax.

lol, Charlie V isnt and has never been a C. He is either a SF or PF but not a C. Nazi would start at C and is probably our best C when healthy. Remember the 20/20 game he had last year, he played really well before the back spasms.

I'd love to see Charlie V's big ass try to play SF. He's got the size to play center but his defense and rebounding, or lack of, keep him from doing so. And as long as Chandler is healthy, he's going to be starting at center over Nazr because of his rebounding skills.

Financially, swapping Felton/Diaw for Gordon/Villanueva makes better sense for the Pistons because they'd have to pay Felton less money. For us, well it puts us over the luxury tax because, assuming we trade Jackson for a PG, we'd be picking up Villanueva's contract. Chandler and Mohammad would absolutely have to be traded by midseason for all of this to work out, but damn, wouldn't it be nice to put Gordon and Villanueva on the court with Wallace and Thomas?

I want nothing to do with Wallace, I'd be pretty disappointed if he landed in Charlotte regardless of the circumstances.

Wait you don't want Gerald Wallace in Charlotte anymore.....can you call the Lakers up and offer a trade of G-Force for Ron Artest or Lamar Odom then....:D

Wow, people are getting a little wacky with the FA rumors. First and foremost Gordon and Charlie V are offensive weapons yes but play NO DEFENSE. Last i checked our identity was a hard nosed defensive team. I for one would like to keep that identity but add a sharpshooter 6th man and a pure PG that can distribute the ball. The Pistons JUST signed Ben and Charlie to be part of the revamped roster. They are NOT gonna move them that quickly.

Your trade idea is half baked BF91 with two statements that make little sense.

"I'd rather have a legitimate starter at PG to go with Ben Gordon than DJ Augustin and Jax." SO WHERE IS THE MONEY FOR THIS LEGIT PG COMING FROM AND WHO IS HE?

"damn, wouldn't it be nice to put Gordon and Villanueva on the court with Wallace and Thomas?" ARE YOU STILL TRYING TO MAKE VILLANEUVA A CENTER?

MY trade scenario is the following

1. S/T Raymond Felton to the Pacers for Earl Watson-PG & Dahntay Jones-SG

2. Boris Diaw to the Raptors for Jarrett Jack-PG & Reggie Evans-PF

3. Tyson Chandler to the Pistons for Jason Maxiell-PF & Chris Wilcox-PF

People are just hell bent on doing something this offseason regardless of whether it improves the team or not.

If the Bobs get improved PG play next year, they could be a 48 win team. The team is built to be on the fringes of the playoffs as the 6-8 seed for the next 3 seasons. Let's not blow that group up just to blow it up.

I am not for blowing up the team. I am for a S/T of Raymond so we can get something for him. He is a first round pick that we have groomed for the last couple years into a decent starting PG in the league with the upside of youth still. I am also for moving the monster contract of TC. There are teams in the NBA that need his size and won't be handicapped by his contract. Lastly i am for moving Boris Diaw since Tyus Thomas has earned the starting spot at PF and having 15 million tied up in one position seems like a waste. We keep our veteran All-Star worthy pair of S-Jack and G-Wallace to build around. Like i said i think all we are missing is a distributing pure PG to pair with DJ and his shooting tendencies. A sharpshooter three point artist 6th man to come off the bench. And some depth at PF behind TT.
