Carolina Panthers GM Hurney won't be hurting for a job

I hope we sign him to an extension, because he really won't be hurting for a job for long if we let him go. Some team that needs rebuilding will hop on him as soon as the season is over and he'll build a quality team through the draft, just like he's done here.

Hurney, great at drafting...our first pick....nooooooooooooooooot so good at anything else really. FA's...Kemo..Lewis...5 or 6 WRs that were "supposed" to help smitty, hartwig, need I go on? Although he has hit a couple guys that really played well for us(Kenny Lucas comes to mind).

We could do much worse tbh, we could be the lions...or the browns *shudder*.

What are you talking about? The only part of the draft that we aren't great at is the 2nd round. Our first round picks are always money and we have always found great value in the late rounds. We also have a great track record of finding no-name-guys that turn out to be solid players (Jake Delhomme, Tyrell Sutton, Matt Moore, etc.). The Panthers build almost solely through the draft, never splurge on big-name free agents, and only pick up complementary players to fill in as needed. Those are all signs of a strong front office. The Delhomme and Peppers situations were mistakes, but Hurney is solid and it would be a big mistake to let him go.

An unbiased opinion of Hurney.

If you were to score him on a scale of 1-10

I would say 8 maybe 8.5.

Successes Like Finding Delhomme, Drafting the 2001 draft (Smith, Morgan, Jenkins) and the 2008 draft(Otah, Stewart), has always hit it big with the first round picks, and at least seems to get some contributors from the later rounds.

At times over pays for players, while not paying at all for others, (the Davis contract is the first time this has actually worked out in our favor)

overall we have had good success, but there are a few moves that are just head shakers.

But he good has out weighed the bad so far.
