Should I get a lawyer?

May 2008 a co-work flipped a gas powered utility cart i was the passenger in. I have a lot of road rash on an arm and knees and required knee surgery (just to clean up damaged cartilage). The knee is mostly better, it sometimes aches and stairs aren't fun. The orthopedic specialist gave me a 5% impairment rating. I had an informal conference with workman's comp today, and the number they came up with for the settlement seems kind of low. I still work for this company and would prefer to continue employment there.

Talk to them first and see what the insurance company says. Then get a lawyer. Just please be honest with it all. Once a lawyer is involved they start getting you to see $$$$ signs and it should be about that.

Cat, I am guessing you meant shouldn't?

and ya, I agree...problem with getting a lawyer, and it's a society thing these days, and who can blame anyone...the dollar values will go up and up and up to a point where you will think gee...that's alot of money...but why not!!!

Already talked to workman's comp. I have been honest which is kind of frustrating.

remember the lawyer will always tell u what u want to here...the harder part is finding one that is honest and that won't waste your time and money on a case he might not win

If he doesn't win, he doesn't get paid. If you don't pick an ambulance chaser, then they will tell you up front if you have a case or not. Workers Comp lawyers work of a percentage of what you win. Not like Divorce lawyers where you pay by the hour.

I know I have a case. I guess the question becomes do I think I'm entitled to more than what I think I am. But yeah I guess I could call your lawyer. I am in SC if that makes a difference.

I just PM'ed you his information. Won't hurt to give him a call. Be sure to tell him, you are in SC.
