jumped the shark? getting married is the natural progression of a love story.

are you sure you know what jumped the shark means? it means doing something ludicrous to try to draw ratings. like a monkey cast member. or jumping a shark on a motorcycle.

characters in love getting married i'm not sure qualifies.

More often than not, it's used when a show has reached its peak. Razzy is saying that the show reached it's peak a while back, and I'm inclined to agree with him. Still, I do enjoy the show and watch it every time it's on. It's still a good show, but I think its best days are long past.

The expression was popularized in 1985 by Jonathan M. Hein, who would later create the web site jumptheshark.com (which now redirects to TVGuide.com). Hein explained the concept as follows: "It's a moment. A defining moment when you know that your favorite television program has reached its peak. That instant that you know from now on...it's all downhill. Some call it the climax. We call it 'Jumping the Shark.' From that moment on, the program will simply never be the same."

That's where the saying originated. Now it means when a show stopped being great and began its decline.

Not that the semantics of it really matter. It's still a funny show, but it jumped the shark during the Pam & Jim marriage season.

Anyone like Parks and Recreation or Community? I think they're as funny as The Office in its day. Community is getting a bit absurd, but it's a very clever show.

My wife and I just started watching Arrested Development a week ago, and now we've gotten through all three seasons. Man, we need more shows like that!

I still watch it, but I barely laugh at it anymore. I don't see how it would continue w/out Carrell.

if you don't think Dwight as the manager banning the women from wearing pants, and implementing mandatory self defense training is hilarious, then there is something wrong with you.

I have the same feeling about Parks & Rec. I love it, it reminds me of the early seasons of The Office. Hopefully it just stays that way.
