I just don't see how anyone can say Moore is or is not the option without letting him play a little while first.

But since you're such a shrewd talent evaluator, I'm curious what you thought of Matt Cassell before he became a star? Or our very own Jake Delhomme, for that matter?

Cassel has proven himself, Moore has not. Jake was better than Rodney and that's all we had that season...and thus the saga began.

Look at the stats, everything prior to this game said panthers where the advantage team and all the media agreed. But everybody forgets one thing the HUMAN EMOTION facture and those can't be included in stats. Its a team game and a team win or a team loss. Had they come back in 4th quater and won nobody would be complaining. Be a true FAN and except the bad with the good. Jake is a good quarter back and John Fox is a good coach sometimes jake may let his emotions get the better of him as do some on the offensive and defensive line. My heart goes out to all the players it was a tough team loss. I wish them nothing but the best for next season and I hope everybody returns. Hold strong thru the growing pains and move forward.

Sorry for your loss panthers but I still support them 100%.

I've seen a lot of new posters like yourself come on to defend the team.

Question: do you ever think it's justified to change anything about a team, be it the players or the coaches?

Change is inevitable in the NFL if you want a team to progress. It's nice and pretty to think we can do this again with the same coaches and quarterback, but I just don't think I see that happening.

To the old veterans: who can honestly say, before he played his first game as a Panther, that they thought Jake was the better option at quarterback?

I can. It was pretty obvious to me that Peete was a stopgap solution, and I never was sold on Chris Weinke being "the future". But I do see your point.

Really good post, I'd forgotten Jaws drooling over Moore.

I have two reservations about him:

1. Arm Strength. He was WAY under throwing the deep ball the year he bailed us out. Literally receivers stopping and waiting for the ball to show up.

2. Preseason showing this year. He looked really really bad. Bad throws, bad decisions.

But, you can't ignore that he went 2-1 as a full time starter with decent stats (not counting garbage time when we'd send him in to hail mary a few at the end). Guy also managed to supplant Baz, which was pretty interesting, considering how well liked he was.

Smitty also seems to like him, which is a pretty big positive.

Supplanting Brett Basanez, one of the least talented players to ever play in the NFL, is not an accomplishment.

Either way, Moore isnt good. He was mediocre in meaningless games last year, this year he was awful in pre-season and never saw the field again. In college he was meh. There is a reason he went undrafted. The team cant keep putting all its faith into castoffs and scrubs that no one else wanted to lead the team. Bring up Delhomme if you want, I will admit he had heart and grit...but football talent wise he has always been the bottom of the barrel in the league.

And if you'd quoted what I said, you'd see I was mentioning how well liked he was, not his performance.

Not that our coaches are ever overly loyal.

For Moore to supplant Baz here was a big deal.

Gotcha, I apologize. If it was strictly based on talent, a blind chimpanzee with mange, gout, and arthritis could easily supplant Basanez though.

i want him to be the QB

realistically, he's not ready YET

but, if delhomme starts out bad next year (IF he's still a panther) moore will come in

Why isn't he ready yet? Look at Flacco, He has had 2 winning season in his entire career, going back to HS. I know he hasn't put up numbers, but with a defense like the ravens have the QB doesn't need to.

I just hope Moore is given a fair shot in TC for the job.

You should have ended it there...

How often has an undrafted player at ANY position gone on to be a star in the league? Sure, you can cite the Kurt Warners and Wes Welkers out there, but they're exceptions to the rule. (BTW, Tony Romo is a media star, he hasn't done anything of note on the field yet so please don't waste our time talking about him). Players are drafted because they're better than everyone else, and while there are some late bloomers they're few and far between. Warner was a starter for one year at the University of Northern Iowa in 1994, and he's the only star I can think of at QB who wasn't drafted. I know there are many more journeymen who weren't, but no stars.

And admit it, everyone on this board wants a star under center. I like Jake, but he's no star and never will be. Jake is a good QB who runs hot and cold, and his cold streaks are enough to get people calling for his head after each loss. Take a look at his body of work before you do that, ok? And to the guy who suggested he didn't have arm strength? Why don't you try reading and not posting for a while, you clearly don't have your facts straight.

Jake has a lot of stuff that's good about his game. He also has enough that isn't good to keep a board QB controversy alive and well. If he was 26 or 27 I wouldn't even think of replacing him right now. But he's 34, and at best he probably only has a few more years left. So yeah, it's time to go get another QB.

I really hope it isn't Moore. I like him, but I want a star under center too, and he never will be. He's another kid who has some nice characteristics but just enough flaws to prevent him to ever reach the elite level. In the right system (a la Romo, Cassell), he might look like a great player, but he won't be one. Last year he won two games, but he did it on the back of the defense and a surging running game. His 56% completion percentage and 3:5 TD to INT ratio won't cut it across an entire season.

I would love to see us draft a QB who's worth a damn. Fasani didn't work out, neither did LeFors, but at least we tried with them. Maybe Fox and Hurney can get lucky with their third attempt.

As a footnote, does anyone care to review Peyton Manning's lifetime performance in the playoffs? It's not just the QB position that wins games--had we had 2003's defense on Saturday I'm sure the game would have unfolded very differently even with Jake's problems. Just saying....
