Analysis: When owner Jerry Richardson talked about how the life had been drained from his franchise during a disastrous 1-15 season in 2001 under coach George Seifert, he couldn’t have expected how dramatic the turnaround would be. Nobody saw the Panthers going to the Super Bowl within two years, but that’s exactly what happened with first-time head coach John Fox.

Stephen Davis rushed for a career-high 1,444 yards in 2003.

In 2002, Fox’s team showed some promise, but there was no real reason to think the Panthers were ready for an incredible run. They had the makings of a very good defensive line, but nobody really knew how much Davis had left when the Panthers brought him in and nobody had a clue what Delhomme, who had spent his career on the bench in New Orleans, might bring.

So Pat Yasinskas, you're saying that the season in which each team acheived the most success in terms of advancing the farthest in the postseason is the best in each franchises history? WHODA THUNKIT?

I think the '05 team should be in there over the '08 team.

That team shut out the Giants in NJ, then destroyed the Bears 2nd overall defense. Had they not been on their 4th/5th string rb, I think they'd have went to the sb.

I think we could have survived that. HOWEVER, if we had a competent receiver on the other side of Smitty (aka Muhammad or Prohel) we would have been competitive and made the Seahawks pay for quad-covering Smith all game.

I agree. If Davis & Foster never got hurt from the Superbowl year to '05-'06 season along with Moose staying than going to Chicago, we probably could have made it to the Superbowl again & maybe win it.
