Bears Fan with Questions about Peppers

when him wants to out full effort, amazing things happen. getting him to do that constantly is the huge huge issue.

ive heard a few current and former players say, him could break any and every DE record. 30 sacks in a year would be no issue.

in practice he always looked a level above others. sorta like a big time college player playing against solid high schoolers.

just like other said, on game day, he'd go MIA and follow it up with similar game. thus ending up on a milk carton.

he was the ultimate tease. god-like in practice and a few games, then several where he might as well not suited up. more than pissed me off. no one has the talent/skills him had and they where wasted at times for some unknown reason/s.

i will say he played thought pain a couple times(i remember broke hand along others), but that doenst cover all the MIA games.

I appreciate the honest answers guys. It's been a long time since the Bears have had a player that has had double digit sacks in a season... we didnt have that even when our defense was one of the best in the league in 05-06

I can't deny that i'm very excited about Peppers.

The Harris trade had everything to do with money and his age. JR only wants to be spending money on the guys who will be valuable starters in 2012.

That's called a public excuse, but hardly the reason. Fact is, he was publicly questioning/expressing his frustrations with the FO and their decisions. Obviously, the Panthers are not going to tell everyone thats why he was traded, plus the Bears wanted him so it worked out.

Well I mean he might seem great to you guys cause he dose get his sacks and he will make some WOW plays. I think people in Carolina though grew tired of seeing what he could do like in 03 compared to what he did do from 06 to present. The only thing I would worry about is him becoming complacent because of his contract.

Funny, you use the 03 season as his standard, his second lowest sack total besides the 07 season. He has something like 30+ forced fumbles along with 6 or 7 ints as well, pretty outstanding for a DE.

They probably made the decision to trade him even before he started making those comments. Didn't Zod say he heard him voicing his uncertainty very early in the offseason?

Pepper's production is solely linked to PERSONAL motivation. He has the physical ability to dominate any game he wishes, as seen in the vikings game this season against some great lineman.

but, the reason he had a beast that game week was due to a few motivational factors outside of the TEAM. He had been hearing all week about how Jared Allen was the best DE in the league, and how Pep didnt have the same motor or heart of Allen. So pep was out to prove something. he was also nearing the end of the season and was up against very good O tackles and knew this could be a difference maker in his contract situation.

Point being, Peppers was a man amoung boys when he wanted to play, but the motivation was never winning a football game or being great. It was about money, or whatever else he had in his mind. Frankly, i dont think anyone will ever know what truley motivates him (maybe we will see now that he has a fat contract).

In my eyes he was never a true "football" player, he plays to make money. He is a great player, and i am a big fan. but, i believe if he could have made just as much money working in a office somewhere thats what he would be doing. I cant say the same thing for someone like smitty, who lives and breathes the game. This game simply comes too easy for him to try his best at all times, so he makes a highlight reel each season playing hard when he wishes, then sits back and avoids getting hurt the rest of the time.

Is his contract $91 million? You'll be paying him $30 million per probowl nod, $2.6MM per sack, $7.6MM per forced fumble, $45.5MM per defensive touchdown, $40MM per blocked kick, and most importantly, $91MM for zero championships.

You'll get to see Brett Favre go on IR and retire because of him though, so that's gotta be worth every penny as a Bears fan. :D
