Bears Fan with Questions about Peppers

This is true. It's mostly sour grapes. Search Chris Harris on here and go back a couple of months- he goes from "best safety...hardest hitter...forces turnovers" to "old and slow...bad in coverage....costs too much" in a matter of hours, once he was traded.

All of that is true though.

That's the point.

Pep deserves every bit of criticism he gets, there's no defending him.

He disappears in big moments, and if your lucky, he'll show up big in the smallest of moments.

Pep, physically, is a monster.

But his desire is questioned by everyone in the league-for a reason.

Jared Allen is nowhere near the physical specimen Peppers is, and if you give me a toss-up between the two when they are both at their best-I take Pep every time, but the problem is, Pep is seldom ever at his best.

Allen ALWAYS is.

If you stuck Allen's heart, in Julius' body, you'd have the most feared defensive player to ever step on the football field-without question.

People would randomly walk up to you on the street and out of the blue, just ask you "Lawrence who?" "Mean Joe who?"

Unfortunatley..Julius, and all his raw physical ability, is usually a bum.

With all that said, I think he'll have a great year this year for the Bears, simply because the pressure's on for him. He HAS to, because he recieved such a large contract from the Bears in the face of all the questions about his work ethic, and with all the CBA disputes going, and the possible lockout to go with it, teams are going to be very cautious about player like Pep. The PERFECT example is Albert Haynesworth, whose story I'm sure your familir with (I'm basically saying that if Pep doesn't show emotionally, he'll be compared to Haynesworth in a HUGE way, and with the labor disputes, that just ain't gonna fly.)

So, that leads me to believe that Pep is going to have a great year next year, however, the year after (assuming there is one) is a whole another story.

So true, the funny thing was Harris was quite affordable for a starter, money had very little to do with the trade.

About Peppers, he creates havoc for teams, having to game plan against him. Is very tall with long arms and is very effective against the run. He plays as hard as any other player that is on the field 95% of the plays. People on this board get confused from seeing highlights on espn of guys once every 4 weeks having a great game thinking they are domoniate every week but accuse Peppers for lack of heart by not having a great game every week. He was very versatile for us and was one of the most dynamic players in the league with containment, coverage, hurries and causing turnovers. I feel he did not live up to expectations here because they were so high, but I do think he could be even more productive than he was here.

With that said, he hasnt been very productive for us in the postseasons since 03.

Yes he has been ineffective in big moment in the past, but thats gonna change this year, so Bears should be happy. I just bought a new pair of Rainbows but really never wear flip flops except to the pool. Kinda waste of money.

pep is a monster, and since the game is so easy for him he seems like he is not going hard all the time. i even questioned his work effort at one point but the guy is def. worth the money. he makes great plays and realized he can go on a sack spree facing the packers, lions , and vikings 6 times a year.

I believe Peppers plays a very self-centered kind of football. In my opinion, he plays when it suits him and he plays without heart for fear of getting injured or for fear of too much attention for his fragile mental state to handle. He's in football for the money not for a championship.

I don't know if we will ever know the secret to Peppers motivation. He obviously plays at a high level some of the time to record the numbers that he has, but i think he just doesnt care as much about being depended upon,or trying to make a play that will help a team come back if they are losing.

I honestly think that Peppers just doesn't love the game of football enough to try to be the best ever. If a player isn't giving 120% all the time, then he isn't going to be elite, even if they are as physically gifted as Peppers.

In the end, the Panthers were just paying him way to much money. They could have signed 2 elite pass rushers for the money we were paying Peppers, and that was holding the team back in terms of salary-cap and depth.

Peppers showed up the 2nd half of last season because he needed to show he could still play and put up number's. Just like he did toward the end of the prior season.

Sadly,at first I think the Bears will get the Peppers we saw his first two or three years here. Then........

The Harris trade had everything to do with money and his age. JR only wants to be spending money on the guys who will be valuable starters in 2012.

He had 42 tackles, 10.5 sacks, 5 forced fumbles and 2 interceptions last year even though he broke his hand. Granted 3 of those sacks came in Tampa Bay Games, but we didn't exactly blow them out the first time we played em, it took a game winning drive to beat em.

I don't think this stat is recorded but I am willing to bet he has been double teamed more than any other player since 2005.

Sam Baker regularly makes Pepp his bitch, but I don't think you guys play Atlanta this year.

How will he do for you guys? Think Kris Jenkins without any injury.

I'm thinking 14 sacks myself.

Pep was not used well at all times, imo. I think he got frustrated with Turgo--so did I--and he pouted. I also think that he played through a few injuries. I also think he underachieves, even when he makes the PRO bowl. That is how good he can be.
