Bears Fan with Questions about Peppers

Hey guys, I promise this isn't a troll thread.

I have questions about Peppers and his "work ethic." Around the league he has the reputation of "taking plays off." Can any of you elaborate?

Because so far at Bears OTA's & Minicamp Peppers has been spectacular... Even unbiased journalists have said so. And you would think that if a player took plays off in games, then he would also do it in practice.

In practices, Peppers routinely outran most all of our recievers, and him and Gross would have epic camp battles. There's no denying his freakish athletic ability. But come game time, he just goes away. Sometimes for plays, sometimes for a series or two, and sometimes for a 4 game stretch. Minus delhomme and his turnover issues, Peppers was arguably the most frustrating panther. Maybe we expected too much from him, maybe he just doesn't have the desire to be great, and is just content being really good. Who knows? Maybe he's got something to prove in this offseason, so he's busting ass... My prediction is he'll be the best Dlineman on your team, but he's just not an elite player. An elite talent, absolutely, he just lacks the grittiness and motor. That is all.

For a de that rarely comes off the field, the guy makes a huge impact on defense. He doesn't disappear anymore than any other elite de in the league.

I can't remember what game it was but last year Peppers got handled by a TE. One on one with no help. I remember there being a thread about how J. Allen would have blown that TE up and sacked the QB. Pepp could have, he just didn't want to.

I believe that was probably Witten, I have Cowboy fans who like to remind me. and while that is bad. I don't think its that bad... Witten is probably the best blocking TE in the league.

That may be but in all reality Pepp should have tossed him aside like a ragdoll. Like Chris said above he will probably dominate this year. Who are yalls DTs?

Tommie Harris (who hasnt had surgery for once this year) and our huge run stopper anthony adams.

our other DE should be Mark Anderson who was amazing his rookie year and then fell off when we made him our starter in 07.

One thing about peppers that im really excited about is that he's great at blocking kicks.

add him to the Bears Israel Idonije who is also a great kick blocker and we get scary.

many of us including myself, speak really badly about peppers work ethic, and some of it is true, but i will be the first to admit that alot of our hateful words stem from us being butt-hurt about him not wanting to play for us in carolina.

truth be told, Peppers, even if he is only giving 80% of his effort, is still probably the best defensive end in the league outside of Jarred Allen. he is a complete beast, and even though he does really take plays off sometimes, he is still a special player and talent.

i think he will thrive in his change of scenery, and i think he will have at least 12 sacks this year, along with some forced fumbles and alot of QB pressures because he is happy to be on a new team. i will admit that since he left us high and dry, i am pissed off about it, and i hope that he sucks for the rest of his career, but just about all of us know that in reality, he is going to be a beast for you guys, at least for the first few seasons anyway.

These are the only guys speaking the truth. The only games he didnt play well in were games 2 and 3. The rest of the season, he was creating pressure and misdirections along with tackles and sacks. And there were a few games that he played with a broken hand, which hindered his performance, that alot of posters conveniently forget because of blind hate.
