Mortal Kombat

Game companies are very hesitant to let old dogs die. Even if I live 100 more years I imagine Mortal Kombat, Sonic, Mario and Street Fighter will still be around. I don't think that they have to keep recreating these games to be successful. Look at Naughty Dog. They abandoned Crash Bandicoot (RIP) and invested in Uncharted. Uncharted has been extremely successful.

My buddy has this game. The graphics are great, and i was kicking his ass for hours, because i mastered Mortal Kombat years ago, but after a few hours, the "new" feeling wore off, and it felt like i was playing old-school MK again.

I think that the old fighting games have been dying a way too slow death. Companies like Midway and Capcom would be better off to let MK and Street Fighter die off, and instead use they're resources to come up with a new platform.

its the fighting game renaissance. SF and MK were pretty much dead for 10 years or so and they have made tons of new games in between. as for midway though they went bankrupt a couple years ago.

there's a whole lot of ignorance in that post.

I dont like the way I worded that post, it's not really the message i was trying to portray. Mortal Kombat was a great game.

What i meant to say is that the development team should have abandoned the MK story. The game-engine that they used was excellent, but i think they should have used it to make a "new" game, with a new story and new characters. At the bottom of the package, write "from the makers of mortal kombat".

Of course it's just my opinion, but if the game had some new ideas, and not just the same old Shoa Khan, Scorpion and Sub-Zero universe, i probably would have bought it. As the first game on the new platform(PS3)(XBOX360), they could have given the fans something new, and maybe even start a brand-new billion dollar franchise.

To be fair .. The new story is for the most part about 80% altered .. and mk 4 through armageddon never actually had a story it was just every characters take on a "story" So they have actually set thereselves up for a large amount of success...

its cool

the reason it seems similar to the old games is because its essentially a revamp or remake of mk3 /mktrilogy

the reason behind it though is because basically every game that has been made after trilogy has been complete crap. they went so far from the original formula that it was pretty much unrecognizable.

it became extremely bloated with awful characters that had things like burps and farts for moves. people wanted a new mk with better graphics, story, and gameplay that stayed true to the arcade era.
