On the radio last night they even talked about us for the first time I'd ever heard. Saying that Smitty was awesome and one of the best playmakers in the NFL but even with our good OL, elite RBs, good Secondary, and Smitty there is no chance we make the playoffs.

I had to disagree.

"There is no way this Panthers team makes the playoffs. Even with the league's best rushing game, one of the league's best wide outs, the league's second best linebacker, one of the league's top passing defenses, and one of the league's best O-lines… But uh… They lost Julius Peppers SO there's NO WAY they make the playoffs."

I heard Chris Carter say that Steve Smith will have problems with this mentally. I believe Carter is still doing cocaine.

I'm not complaining though, because he just did us a favor. Everybody that follows the Panthers knows that Steve Smith will work even harder and play even harder when people start publicly doubting him. This dude played with a freakin broken neck in college, for crying out loud, and he came back stronger, faster, and better after he broke his leg here. This broken arm is nothing but fuel for Smitty's fire.

BTW, everybody does know that broken arms heal in about 6-8 weeks, and that it's still June, right?

I'm not worried about the chemistry with Matt Moore either. Moore had about 3 days of practice with the 1's before he got his first start as a rookie in 07, but when they got on the field in a real game, it looked like him and Smitty had been playing together for 3-4 years already.

If we're gonna worry about anything, it should be how quickly Moore can develop some chemistry with LaFell and Edwards. We already know he's more comfortable with Jarrett than Delhomme was.

I think thats the major reason Jarrett has failed in so many people eyes. Jake was a one trick pony. I'm not the biggest fan of Kenny Moore but with Smith down this will be good time for the youth movement to grow. Smith will still be at practice teaching the young guys so maybe this works out for the best. Unlike the Thomas Davis injury

BTW, don't y'all love how a couple of these experts are claiming that everybody will just gang up on our running game now, as if that's some brilliant new strategy? The Panthers have been facing 9 or more in the box for the last two years. In week 2 of the 08 season (when Smitty was still suspended) Chicago was actually putting all 11 men on the LOS for a good chunk of that game and the Panthers still ran the ball and won the game.

Of all the wide receivers to miss training camp, Smitty is the one that will hurt us the least. Throw the ball out there into space and Smitty will just about kill himself to catch the ball.

The other guys need reps with Moore and this is the best chance the coaches will have to assign someone to the second and slot WR spots. They can now evaluate two players at a time rather than one as they would have with Smitty in during practice.

Jarrett will have his work cut out for him. Everyone gunning for his spot will get more looks with the first team, so its now or never for him. Live up to the paychecks you've been getting or go join the waiver wire guys.

Smitty will be back and he'll hopefully be fine. I just hope that arm of his doesn't grow a big safety-seeking target on it after this. Two breaks on the same arm in seven months might give someone an idea of how to take him out of a game.
