Darin Gnatt thinks Kenny Moore will replace Smitty at the start of camp

I said when he plays and is thrown the ball he has produced. I have no idea what was going on that caused Jarrett to be inactive so much. Maybe it was the coaches maybe Jarrett himself. But if we are looking at statsfrom last year Kenny Moore and Jarrett play almost the same amount of games. Jarrett has double the catches. So if we are going off production alone Kenny Moore has no business being on the field
SInce you didnt know why he was inactive allow me to fill you in. It was because he WASNT productive! He was activated for every game the first 3 quarters of the season til they finally had enough. He was so unproductive they would have rather played Kenny Moore and Charlie Martin over him. His only productive game as a pro so far was against the Saints backups. Give it up! He's a bust! This is his last chance. If it wasnt for the fact that he was such a high pick he would have been canned years ago.

maybe you failed to notice that delhomme never even looked at him while he was on the field because his reads were smith, moose, king, anybody on the D, with moore I truely believe Jarrett will put up good numbers

Do yourself a favor and stop copying posts that you read from other posters. That is such a complete myth that Jarrett stinks only because Jake never looked at him. He didnt look at him because he could never get open. Jarrett will put big numbers as long as the panthers are playing against backups like in the saints game. Look for Jarrett to be 4th on the depth chart by week 3.

The thing about Jarrett is that he's not the kind of guy in terms of his routes that Jake liked to throw to.... or was good enough to find.

In a way, he's like a slower version of Moose in his prime. He has great hands, great range, and will take a hit to make a catch but he's not going to get a ton of separation from DBs. He wants to go up and get it. He's a chain mover, not a playmaker. That was the basis for all the baseless speculation around here that he was going to be a star. He was never going to be a star. What he could be at best would be a Keyshawn Johnson type of guy without the hype. The kind of dude that just pulls down passes and takes lots of hard hits and earns his money through making tough grabs and not YAC like some other guys do.

If you wait for .... let's say Boldin or Owens.... to get wide open before you throw to them then they're never going to get the ball. Possession WR need the trust of the QB that they're going to come down with it and Jake never had that with Dwayne for whatever reason. When he did let him "go get it", he did it and came through with some big 3rd down conversions.

Let's be real. We all know that Jarrett has insane catching ability. His hands are butter soft, but his routes are fairly rough and his speed is well below NFL average for the position. I also think he has well above average toughness, despite what folks around here say. He does have his faults, but he also has his strong points. Does that mean he can't contribute? No it does not. It's going to be all about chemistry for Jarrett and if he's smart, he'll be riding shotgun with Matt Moore all through camp to develop that trust.

Thats a fair evaluation but I disagree with you about the Keyshawn comparison. We could only wish that Jarrett could be a Keyshawn or a Moose (in his prime). Just because Key was a possession receiver doesnt mean he wasnt a playmaker either. He didnt have grat YAC ability but he did get the tough yards when needed. Jarrett had 1 or 2 nice catches on 3rd down in 08 but he has proven for the most part that he can not be relied on consistently. As much as I disliked Jake there was a good reason why he couldnt trust Jarrett.

I love posts like these where everyone thinks they know why he was inactive for the game.

Fact is, nobody on this board is a part of the coaching staff so stop acting as if you have an answer to everything. We don't know why Jarrett wasn't playing and everything people are saying (including the media) is baseless speculation.

For all we know is that the coaching staff are really high on Jarrett.

I love when people on this forum talk about Jake's "reads."

"ROFL Jarrett never got thrown at cuz the QB chose to look for his #1 receiver, his #2 receiver, and his extremely underrated and very productive tightends before he looked for his #3 receiver. Jake suckz Jarret pwns."

You're right. It couldnt be because of the obvious reason....... him being unproductive. They must have benched him because he's black.

When you're looking at this, you have to keep in mind that the wide receiver positions aren't all the same. In the starting spots, there's an "X" receiver and a "Y", and the skill sets are not the same.

With Smith out, they need the next best guy that's closest to his type of receiver. Gantt think's that's Moore. Looking over the roster, he's probably right.

I would think the closest receiver to Smith in terms of athleticism and speed would be Armanti Edwards from what I have heard. Seems to me Moore will get first crack because of his experience more than his skill sets matches Smith. He didn't seem to have the ability to go up and get the ball in traffic like Smith does and like Edwards has been described doing in OTAs. But you are right about us using a good blocking possession receiver on one side and Smith on the other. I wonder who will shine more, Jarrett or LaFell.
