At sweet and savory last weekend i had the Scottish Ale from Front Street Brewery. A favorite of mine since I moved down here. The brewery itself doesn't always have it though. The brewer talks about it here.

I follow them on Facebook -- it seems they always have some great beer deal going on. While I've never had that one, I do like Scottish Ales.

i went on St Pattys day, and they didn't have it. I had one though that they call the "Burt Bock aroch".

Was probably the crowd of the drinking holiday, but the service at the bar was shitty that day.

edit: the scottish is 7.2% IIRC. its very malty, and now that i've brewed a little i'm taking note of the different tastes. chocolate malts are my favorite as of now.

So, what's everyone been drinking?

We had some friends over a couple nights ago. He brought over New Belgium's Trippel. While not a new beer, it is new to North Carolina. It's a good Tripel if you're a fan of the style.

Then my buddy and I split a Founders KBS and a Tyranena Benji's Chipotle Smoked Imperial Porter. Both awesome, though I wish the latter had more heat. I've tried several chile beers and am always disappointed with the heat level. I need to start brewing!

I bonged bush lights last night.......but seriously I drank an Indian pale ale the other day called hoptical illusion that was pretty good

How many pooty IPAs can brewers actually make? Had another tonight that someone left at my house.

I guess all you have to do, is brew an over hoppy, astringent beer, high alcohol content, give it a cool name and its supposed to be revered. All the pooty IPAs out here make me hate them all even more. And i know there are some decent ones out there. I just cant stomach them any longer.

Im nauseous. I doubt id even take a free 6 of any ipa at this point.

I had this 15.95% bad boy yesterday:

mephistop375_glass.png

Mephistopheles is the crafty shape shifter, the second fallen angel. Amazingly complex, coal black, velvety and liqueurish, this demon has a bouquet of vine-ripened grapes, anise and chocolate covered cherries with flavors of rum-soaked caramelized dark fruits and a double espresso finish. IBUs 107.

Pretty intense, but delicious.

Sent out a few beer trades this morning as well. I'll have another bourbon barrel-aged 15% beer coming my way (Voodoo Black Magick), as well as a smoked porter from Tennessee (Yazoo Sue).

you'll become man enough to enjoy a good ipa....:D

seriously though, i just started liking them last year. you could start off by drinking terrapin, they have a decent selection of pale ale's that aren't too hoppy.

I suggest taking up the joyful hobby of home brewing. Seasonal beers are what you want them to be. Have a stout in the summer if you like! It really is all up to you.
