might be brewed there and then bottled in PA

label says Brewed in PA.

They did a slight of hand. Look, im all for making cash, all you can. But dont hoodwink us mang. I think the beer sucks anyway. Yueng is much better. Im assuming all the Cottonwood is brewed in PA too, but couldnt tell you.

Im sure there are a lot of small regionals looking to make a name and cash in for what they can get. Thats fine.

It makes me feel better about paying really high prices for beers from places like DFH.

French Broad and Caggie are both out of Asheville. The Caggie comes in big .5 gallon glass jugs that look cool as hell too. Both make REALLY good beers, especially French Broad.

Blowing Rock is out of Boone and they make a pretty good brew also.

French Broad, Asheville Brewing Company, Highland, Pisgah, Craggie, The Wedge...I could go on and on. Really spoiled here in Asheville, we won Beer City USA 2010, beating out Portland, OR.

I'd also like to nominate highland gaelic.

I will second Highland Gaelic and all of the other great beers of Western North Carolina.

Let's see, regional beers. Well, it depends on what beer styles you like. Also, most of the region's really good beers are draft only in the area they are brewed. NC breweries turn out some great beers, but we see very little of them in the Charlotte market.

Now that that's out of the way, here are a few of my favorites from the area that should be pretty accessible:

North Carolina

Duck-Rabbit: Just about anything they make is good, but especially their flagship milk stout and seasonal releases.

Mother Earth: Of all their beers, I like their Belgian Tripel the best -- though they make a good IPA.

Highland: The Gaelic is great, but it was their Oatmeal Porter and Black Mocha Stout that got me into craft beer.

Big Boss: It's not a style I drink a lot of, but Big Boss's brown ale, Bad Penny, is a good one.

South Carolina

Skull Coast: Skull Coast contract brews just one or two beers a time at RJ Rockers, but you can find them on draft in the Charlotte area and they are expanding across the Carolinas. Their Maelstrom IPA is great, and was the best thing going when I had it at Bank of America when the Panthers played the Bears.

Georgia

Sweetwater (GA): The Sweetwater IPA is one of the most underrated in the nation, in my opinion. At $7.99, it's usually my go-to IPA. Great value beer.

There are many other great, great beers in this region; but as I said, you won't find many of them in bottles or outside of the small market in which they're brewed. Most of the above beers can be found at Harris-Teeter.

If you have any questions about specific styles, let me know. Or better yet, ask in the beer thread, where this talk belongs. ;)

:cheers2:

The Mad Boar up in NMB had a great Scottish Ale back when I lived in Murrels Inlet, SC.

I used to hit up Port City Brewing Co. while back home in Wilmington on the holidays. Haven't been in awhile but they had a great irish red. Irish Fist Stout maybe?

Pretty sure that's brewed in PA as well.

And as others have mentioned, Highland is king 'round these parts. Big Boss will get you drunk and tastes pretty damned good too.

I like Ol' Mecklenburg Copper here in Charlotte.

Also, blueberry beer is disgusting. Any sweet, fruity beer is beer with training wheels.
