I'll be visiting the Waldhorn restaraunt this weekend. Any suggestions?

Most of those on draft are the more popular German beers available here. Of the draft beers, I like both Franskiskaners (Dunkelweizen and Hefeweizen). I also like the Spaten Optimator a lot since first trying it just a month or so ago.

There are a few nice bottled beers there, too (though they're charging a good bit for them). The Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier (smoked beer) is awesome! It's like you're drinking a smoked ham, so you may love it or hate it. Aventinus is a wheat doppelbock that is really good (and very strong), and the Ayinger doppelbock is one of the best examples of the style.

Let us know what you try. I've been meaning to go to Waldhorn, but I've never been.

Had a stout IPA beer last night with 9.5 % alcohol. Was a little more bitter than I am used to but overall a good beer.

Well what was it -- a stout or an IPA? :P Sounds like an IPA if it was really bitter. And at 9.5%, it was probably a double IPA.

Had a Belhaven Twisted Thistle at lunch. Restaurant had it on tap so I gave it a go with some fish & chips.

Its a pretty light weight for an IPA. Nice flavor but missing the hard edge of the bitter hops Ive come to expect from an IPA.

That's because it's an English IPA. Most American IPAs are more heavily hopped. I'm more of an American IPA guy myself, although I recently tried Left Hand's 400 lb. Monkey (an English IPA) and really enjoyed it.

lol sorry im not too knowledgable about these things. It said stout on the bottle but on the Menu it said IPA..so I dunno LOL

No biggie, I was just curious. Now I want to know what you had! Was it a dark beer? You don't remember who brewed it or what the label looked like?

I finally found some Old Rasputin so Ill be giving that a go this weekend. Is it only available in the 12oz bottles? I was hoping for a bomber.

As far as I know, it's only available in the 12 ounce bottles. I like that, though. Sometimes I don't want two of them (or rather, I shouldn't have two of them).

Let me know what you think! I freakin' love that beer.

Oh, the barrel-aged Rasputins (Old Rasputin X, XI & XII) do come in bombers. I have an XI that I'm saving for some special occasion.

Berry i actually got a twelve pack of assorted brews from up and down the west coast. Small brewery type stuff. I was so excited so i could post my tasting thoughts here. However i got drunk "tasting" them and for some reason drank every damn one. And threw all the damn bottles away. i know. Well i do know one reason, the alcohol contents were massive. A couple i remember were Maximus and Hop rocket. My bad i really was hoping to contribute. i really do love all beers and read all these posts. Outside of Total wine, where else has a good selection.

Ha! We've all been there before. I'm going to a beer festival in Asheville this weekend and am just hoping I don't get so inebriated that I can't remember all of the beers I'm going to try.

Do you mean Lagunitas Maximus? I've never had that one, but I've enjoyed all of the Lagunitas beers I've had. I haven't had Hop Rocket either.

Are you in Charlotte? If so, what part of Charlotte? I could probably recommend a few more good places to buy beer.

Yes it was the Lagunitas maximus. it was the first one i had and the name was fitting! Very dark, smooth and sweet. The hop rocket was number two and it was a whole differnet world from the Maximus. Bitter and dry, very floral. They all were so damn good I got into that, i cant wait for the next one mode. Next thing I know im shotgunning coors light in my driveway like i was damn sixteen. i loathe coors light. Anyway I will have a notepad the next damn time.

I've tried almost everything Spaten I could get my hands on and think I may have even recomended the Optimator on here in the days before the Beer Thread existed lol. I was planning on starting the evening with that. The others you mentioned though are new to me. I'm a huge fan of the doppelbock style, so I'll definately be giving those a try. Aecht sounds intriguing, but I may have to find myself in the mood. May give one of the wheat drafts a try as well. I'm not paying and I'm not driving, so God only knows what's gonna wind up in my glass after all that lol.
