I know some of you guys have mentioned being fans of brown ales, so I wanted to let you know that last night I tried Sierra Nevada's new autumn seasonal, Tumbler.

I'm not a huge fan of brown ales, but I do enjoy them every now and again. Like most American brown ales, this one was hoppier than its English counterpart. I thought it might be a bit maltier, but it just had a light toastiness to it. As a result, it was very drinkable. I could see myself picking this up again when fall is actually here.

I had wanted to try it but was reticent to pick up a whole six-pack, since it's not really a style I enjoy. Fortunately, Harris Teeter had 24 oz. bombers for only $2.99.

Mother Earth, from our neighbor Kinston, NC, has got a great series of draughts. My present pick is "Sisters of the Moon" a (india) pale from US hops...support your American farmer!

I have got to try that Rasputin...I have a total love for Russian art, music and that slavic female!

I saw that at the store this evening...love a brown ale but not quite ready to let go of summer beer yet. Well, ok I got a Sam Smith Nut Brown bomber :)

I've had the Mother Earth Weeping Willow Wit and really enjoyed it. You can actually find their bottles around Charlotte now in Harris Teeters, Lowe's Foods and specialty beer stores. I really want to try their Tripel. I'll try that and the IPA next!

Rasputin is such a wonderful beer. Russian imperial stouts were brewed by the British for the Russian court. They had to make the typical stout stronger and more heavily-hopped to stand up to the long voyage at sea (hops are a preservative).

Same basic idea for the India Pale Ale -- it's a stronger version of a pale ale brewed for export to India. An imperial IPA is even stronger.

Sorry for the history lesson. :P

Nice! I'm actually very tired of summer and looking forward to fall and winter, and all of the wondeful beers that come with those seasons! I still drink porters, stouts and barleywines in the warm months, but to me they are best enjoyed when it's really cold out.

I'm looking forward to the various Oktoberfests and pumpkin beers as well!

Summer is the worst time of year for seasonal beers. Is that even really debatable?

nope...i find myself drinking Miller Lite:eek:...but after watching Beer Wars, i have a hard time buying from one of the big breweries.... never buy AB.

Recently been buying Yuengling.

Looking forward to fall. I need to lose weight to prepare for Beer Season.

You guys are right: the summer seasonals just can't compare. I do look forward to some nice saisons and hefeweizens, but most of my favorites can be had year-round anyway.

Yuengling's a good, inexpensive lager. Do you have any Trader Joe's near you, TheSaint? They've got a plethora of craft beers for $1 each, putting them right at Yuengling's price point.

yeah, i can get whatever i want, i was just referring to drinking beer in the summer. A few weeks ago, i got back into drinking Belgians and some craft brews, but normally in summer, they are just too heavy for me, and i drink Lite beers.

The Flemish sours are pretty refreshing though this time of year.

Trader Joe's has a few easy-drinking beers that would be good this time of year. Chief among them is their Kolsch, which is contract-brewed by Gordon Biersch (they brew tons of German styles in accordance with the German purity law). They also have some Hefeweizens, Bocks and maybe even Maibocks that would be good on warmer days.

Not knocking Yuengling at all, because I actually quite like it. I've stopped buying it, though, because it seems every time I do I end up with skunked beer. Damn green bottles! Maybe I should give it a shot in cans.

    • His o loaded with swift, dj, Keenan and Rome was inconsistent at best. The d was bad. And the game management was atrocious and lost them games.  He was terrible and made the team worse. I wish they kept him
    • That is my point.  I think teams make a huge mistake when they pay their decent to average QBs top QB money because they feel that they have to match the market or lose their investment--There is no way, for example, that Tua or Prescott or Murray should all be making more than Mahomes--I mean, Dak makes $15m per season more than Mahomes. People say, "Well, when its his turn...." But that is not how it should be--so my point was that Bryce can be doing mediocre to good enough in 2 years, but the way it is going, you have to pay him at the starting QB rate--currently $60m.  So even if you think he will continue to improve, at $60 m, he would eliminate any chance for a ring---so my view is, if he is not elite, you cut him.  So you draft QBs now and see what you can make of them.
    • With two 4ths and three 5ths I’m hoping we can kill it on adding depth. Take a gamble with the two 7ths.  First 3 picks id love to address the defense. I expect Tuttle, Robinson, and Jewell to all be on the 2025 roster but not after that. Be a good time to add depth and let them develop a year.
