Odds to win NFC Championship in 2010

Written May 26, 2010 by Jason Lowry

We still have plenty of time to go before the opening kick of the 2010 NFL season, but that doesn’t mean it’s to early for sportsbooks to put out odds on the upcoming season. Our focus in this article is looking at the NFL odds for each team in the NFC found at Sportsbook.com. If you are looking for a great place to bet on the NFL next season, Sportsbook.com is giving our our readers a 10% bonus on your initial deposit.

While there is no question that the Saints are going to be the favorites of many experts and fans around the league, no team has won back to back NFC Championship games since the Green Bay Packers did so back in 1998 and 1999. Unlike the AFC where the Steelers, Patriots, and Colts have dominated, representing the AFC in each of the past seven Super Bowls, in each of the past eight season a new team has represented the NFC in the Super Bowl.

Favorites: New Orleans Saints +400, Dallas Cowboys +450, Minnesota Vikings +450, and Green Bay Packers +450

Don’t get me wrong I like the Saints and everything they bring to the table, but I don’t think they are headed back to the Super Bowl next season. The Vikings season all depends on whether or not Brett Favre comes back, which all signs point that he will. With Favre the Vikings are without a doubt of the the top teams in the NFC. I was surprised to see how spot on the oddsmakers were with the Packers, as I think they have a legit shot at not only taking down the Vikings in the NFC North, but winning the whole thing. That leaves the Cowboys, a team that is loaded with talent, but the question remains can Tony Romo lead this team to a Super Bowl win?

Middle of the Pack: New York Giants +900, Philadelphia Eagles +900, San Francisco 49ers +900, Chicago Bears +1000, and Atlanta Falcons +1100

There are some interesting teams in this mix. I think that the Eagles are going to be better than people think, even with Donovan McNabb no longer in town, and could give the Cowboys a run for their money in the NFC East. The same goes for the New York Giants, who could return to the form that won them the Super Bowl if the defense turns things around. I like the 49ers chances of winning the NFC West, but I don’t think they are ready to compete for the Super Bowl. The Bears are an interesting team heading into next season, I can seem them finishing anywhere from 7-9 to 11-5. Finally the Falcons are another team that must be taken seriously in 2010, they fell off a bit in 2009 but this team without a doubt has the talent to win the NFC South.

Long Shots: Washington Redskins +2000, Seattle Seahawks +2300, Arizona Cardinals +2500, Carolina Panthers +2500, Detroit Lions +3500, St Louis Rams +5000, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers +5000

While I don’t any chance for the Lions, Rams, or Buccaneers to win the NFC next season, it will be interesting to see which of these three teams makes the most improvement. I think both the Cardinals and Seahawks have an outside shot at making a run next season, just because the NFC West is so wide open. I think the Panthers will be a good team in 2010, but not good enough to make the postseason. That leaves the Redskins, who just might have made the biggest move of the offseason acquiring McNabb. They very well could be the surprise team of the entire NFL next season.

10-6 = 66.6%

Looks like less of a chance than I assumed......and you know what they say.....All the same, I'd think that 10-6 would send the Panthers to the playoffs.

Where do you get that? I'm pretty sure you have better than a 66.6% chance to make the playoffs with a record of 10-6 (which is what bell meant, I think).
