Should the Panthers Trade for Leroy Hill?

Recommended Posts

No...you do not trade.

If you do anything you build up stock value in our players for the first 4 games. If Moore turns out to be a better than average QB in the first 4 games...and teams around the NFL see their QBs getting hurt or just underperforming (Arizona maybe?), THAT's when you dangle prize trade material out for help. Hopefully at that time we don't look desperate with multiple LB injuries or anything.

for the record...I've been a huge pro-Matt Moore guy, but we only signed him for a 1-year contract (IIRC) and he could be huge trade bait material.

So it was with a player who shows up about 30% of the time....combined with three decent players who have been replaced by younger players with more talent.

Uhm, ok? The fact is, all those players were here weren't they, starting and contributing? 30% of the time, nice number you just pulled out of your ass, only about 30% of your comments have any merit anyway. I didn't mean to sound like we can't still be a top 10 defense this year, but you have to expect different results with this many different starters.

Peppers leaves, and now his value to us, to that defense meant nothing? Some of you will have a rude awakening.

NO, Pep showed up in about 30% of the games.

He had 3-4 games he looked all universe....4-5 game he looked solid....then 6-8 games you wondered whether he left the locker room. That has always been his MO.

I am not even knowing Diggs, Lewis, etc. They are solid players. I just believe the young guys replacign them are faster,s tronger, and hungrier. I don't think you will see any drop off in them.

You do realize that vets eventually lose their jobs....the NFL is a young man's game.

Well I hope you're right. My point is don't expect to see the same results with no drop off. Last year's team was made of vets, now we have younger, more mistake-prone players filling those roles.

I am excited for the new look with these younger players, I just am expecting some growing pains is all. Have we ever had two consecutive top 10 defenses here?

lol, 30% of the time. Peppers showed up a lot more than that. He easily put in one of his best seasons of his career last year......and that was missing some time w/ a broken hand. You can point at the Dallas game all you want but Pep played dang well overall last season. The bash him and knock him all you want but his absence will have pretty decent effect on us in 2010. There is a reason they paid him $1,000,000 a Sunday and that is b/c an inconsistant Peppers is still a BIG factor.

He is a really good player, there is no doubting that but I don't like trading for players. If the organization was really worried about our linebacker situation then I believe they would have signed Keith Bulluck by now (even though he just recovered from an injury). The Panthers are really not that great at trading for players sure we know how to pick up mediocre players in trades such as Jamar Williams, Tank Tyler, Louis Leonard, Al Wallace, and Jason Baker.

However, when it comes to free agency pick-ups I think we are one of the best. For example; John Kasay, Lamar Lathon, Brett Maxie, Sam Mills, Steve Beuerlein, Eric Davis, Kevin Greene, Wesley Walls, Michael Barrow, Doug Evans, Sean Gilbert, Brenston Buckner, Rodney Peete, Jake Delhomme, Ricky Proehl, Ken Lucas, Damione Lewis, and Tyler Brayton. That is pretty d*mn good group and I would not have a problem with just sigining a free agent.

Peppers is still the poster child for inconsistent play.

Is he a very good player and will he be missed....yes.

Is he the unstoppable force that some continue to contend....only during several games a year.

Peppers potential has FAR outweighed his actual performance on the field. He is a freak of nature and could have very well been the best to ever play his position. However, he NEVER delivered a consistent performance that warranted the amount he is being paid.

Peppers is inconsistent.....but he could easily be the best DE we will see in Carolina for a long time. I don't think his potential far outweighed his performance.....he came in with Dwight Freeney and has pretty comparable numbers (what he lacks in sacks he outperformed Freeney in INTs, FFs, etc.).

I think effort and attitude can be confusing. I have seen Jon Beason disappear and he will do so in the future. Beason just maintains a different attitude on the field and therefore will always get the benefit of the doubt that star players do disappear and it isn't b/c effort ain't there.

unfortunately, this season will show us Peppers true value. He didn't get the sack numbers that many for some reason expected, but like cra said, he made up in other areas. even with the 07 season, his sack numbers are comparible to freeney but his rush defense and stripping the ball, plus some of those ints are going to be missed and very difficult to replace.
