wow!! a post reply without a smartass 88bronco comment...Im shocked...it must be the end of the world :willy_nilly:

People's kids are usually a sacred area I don't make jokes about. Now your spouse, parents, pets, sexuality, sexuality with pets, sexuality with family members (that aren't your children), addictions, substance abuse, porn collection, incompetence, incontinence, employment status, education level, social statues, music preferences, and just about anything else I can think of is fair game.

I think it depends on what time they typically get up in the morning and then back it up 10 or 11 hours!

my nine year old has always been an early riser so we always tried to get her to bed pretty early where as my older daughter always liked to sleep late.

At 3, the time is getting closer to getting him used to school times etc, but for now I'd be more concerned on how many hours of sleep he is getting rather than what time he is going to bed and getting up.

just my 2 cents worth

I have a 3 year old and he typically goes to bed at 8-8:30.

Summer seems to always through us off a bit. With it getting dark later, vacations and fewer naps because of pool time, we have found it best to adjust his bedtime according to what the day was like for him and what we are doing that evening.

8-8:30

On a side note, you can put them to bed anytime between 10PM and 2AM on Friday and Saturday nights, and those little people will still be up at the crack of dawn on Saturday and Sunday mornings.

Make a joke about my social statues and see what happens.

Nothing hard and fast. I like what both hawk and cat said. See how your kid does in the am. If your kid gets up cranky or drags out of bed, not getting enough sleep. Getting up TOO early for you guys, push the time for bed back.

Mom and dad must both be on the same page and must ALWAYS win the battle over the kid. They need to be on your timetable not the other way around.

If you don't nip it now, it will dog all of you for years to come.

This plays a big role with discipling your kids too. There are times they might seem defiant etc, but check their sleep. Maybe they aren't getting enough or during the day a proper nap might make for a better evening for all parties.

Having a feel for that will help you know when a child needs to be punished for something(punish maybe not the best word) or simply a good nap or some food. Heck even us adults could gain from a good nap or some food to avoid being an angry jerk.

My youngest has always needed more sleep than my oldest... prior to starting school he would be in bed by no later than 8:30... now that he's in school, he's in the bed pretty much every night by 8, and he's 10. My oldest, which is now 14, has never needed much sleep and he stays up most nights until 10 and gets up at 6.

My youngest is like me... if I don't get 8 hours sleep, I'm a bitch the next day.
