I've been downloading for over 10 years now, I've done it all basically.

Newsgroups is the absolute best. No ratios, max speeds. You pay like $11 bucks for access to the servers, then you get a search site (I paid like $10 bucks for life time membership) to search the .nzb's (newsgroup file). I bought a program with lifetime updates for like $25 that handles the download, it also repairs/extracts it automatically for you after it's done downloading. EACH download maxes your speed. I get mp3 albums (320kbps) in like 2.5 minutes. A full x264 movie (5gigs-8gigs) in like 1.5 hours.

I also use (and have since, well, forever) IRC to download things. Mostly now I use it to find songs (usually single songs). Using a program called MIRC to do it. IRC is old and has been around forever. Newsgroups/IRC get everything first and that's where the main release groups hang out.

Both of these methods are safe and most likely you'll never get caught. There is laws in place where the Gov can't intrude on things like direct to direct connection (like IRC) and things like that. Kazaa and all those programs connected with a central server which is where the problem lies. The authorities are getting better at torrent traffic but a lot of ISP's still don't play with the RIAA so it's relatively safe. Private tracker sites are the best but ratios are annoying esp. since USA ISP's have crappy upload. I used to use supertorrents.org which I still have an account, it's a great site, not as much crap as demonoid but it's quality and fast.

STAY away from those frostwire, kazaa, limeshare, all that garbage.

I've never paid to pirate anything and I've never had a problem getting anything. What gives? I typically only download music. Somtimes software, but it's rare.

You are usually fine if that's what you are after. I just like getting my x264 movies quick so I can throw them on the media PC and watch them that night. They also have retention at like 2 years which means everything put on there is available for that long, whereas, torrents die off. Newsgroups also have a ton of older movies, etc.

They have x264, dvd images, xvids, music, x-box games, software, pc games, nds games, all that junk.
