Shutter Island

Saw it this weekend..Bit disappointed, a bit bothered by his wife, that kind of thing really disgusts me even if it was fiction. Plus, movies that end up with the explanation that 'it was all in his head' are a waste of time and money...Should've seen 'Daybreakers'...

*SPOILERS*

So this morning I went back and looked at some stuff online. The fact that the water glass "Chuck" got Mrs. Kearns wasn't there, and the bandage on "Teddy's" forehead. It seems to me that the movie very clearly has no answers. It is just meant to be what you want it to be. If you think he is insane, then he is insane. If you think he is not insane, then he is not.

I do think it's pretty obvious he wanted the lobotomy at the end, and was faking his relapse. But I have little clue if I actually think he is insane or not.

The only great thing about that movie was the cinematography. The rest of it was horribly predictable. I knew he was nuts after the first 20 minutes. It did have somer pretty poignant and intense scenes, but overall it was meh.

I did think the ending was pretty good, though. It's obvious that he was nuts and knew it during certain moments of clarity so he choose to act insane on purpose so they would put him out of his misery.

Finally saw it. I really don't think it was a twist, just a part of the story. And I do believe he was sane in the end and couldn't live with the truth of knowing he should have gotten help for his wife, his wife killed the kids, should have left work early and then shot his wife. No wonder he lost it...

What was weird was at the beginning on the ferry, I thought he looked like Jack Nicholson from Chinatown and then winds up with a lobotomy like Jack in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.
