Tyson Chandler to opt out?

On one hand, it'd be really nice to be rid of his contract. On the other, he's a pretty decent starter at C when he's healthy and that expiring contract would be good for the Bobcats in trades.

Is Tyson really that stupid? He won't get that money anywhere else.

A source close to the situation told ESPN.com that Bobcats big man Tyson Chandler is seriously considering exercising an early termination option on his contract this summer. If Chandler terminates his contract early, he'll forfeit the remaining $12.6 million he's due from the Bobcats and become an unrestricted free agent on July 1st.

I am fine with him opting out as long as we acquire a draft pick. I don't want him leaving and then the Bobcats going out and signing a Center to replace him. If we could get a draft pick and draft a Center, maybe Solomon Alabi, Daniel Orton, Dexter Pittman, or Brian Zoubek. Then use that 13 mil to grab a couple of guys that could help this team Some noteable free agents that the Bobcats should take a look at are.....

PF- Hakim Warrick

PF- Amir Johnson

PF- Ian Mahinmi

SF- Travis Outlaw

SG- Tony Allen

SG- Roger Mason Jr.

PG- Nate Robinson

PG- Luke Ridnour

Its not about this year, its about security for the next three.

PF- Carlos Boozer

PF- David Lee

PF- Udonis Haslem

PF- Hakim Warrick

PF- Amir Johnson

PF- Ian Mahinmi

SF- Travis Outlaw

SF- Kyle Korver

SG- Joe Johnson

SG- Tony Allen

SG- Roger Mason Jr.

PG- Nate Robinson

PG- Luke Ridnour

You can give up on Boozer and Lee, those are guys looking for max contracts. Haslem most likely stays in Miami, and he's undersized for PF. Korver can't defend, so LB will automatically hate him and never play him. Joe Johnson is another max free agent guy, and we'd have to trade one of Jackson or Wallace for him to be a fit.

Not trying to rain on your parade, just being a realist. :)

chandler may feel that signing a 3 or 4 year deal for less money is better than being trade bait for most of next season, even if we trade him we could sign a decent center like brendan haywood who is bigger and more physical

    • Because Young is so historically bad that it just skews too far outside the normal deviations that perspective is easily lost. That or they just don't want to believe it.  The struggles last year would have been more about the infighting and poor roster building or idiot owner's hiring practices than with Stroud. He wouldn't have been as good but he wouldn't have been ruined here and the pressure was not Carr-esk if you take out the Young created portion from his playing style.  Dude is a young guy on a team coached by a Defensive guy building a good D but not building up the O in year 2 of his HC 1st time gig. Seems familiar... Go look at his output this year and not just some crappy Thursday night implosion game, I would take that in a second and never ever look back every time without a shred of doubt while eating 4 of those games a year with a giant smile on my face.
    • There is zero reason to sit him if he is ready to go.  Putting him on a shelf and attempting to protect does him no favors.
    • Stroud us nit the first QB thus franchise has missed on. He also won't be the last.
