Press conference today to announce Moose's retirement

Moose was a solid contributor every year he was with the Panthers and was a great player and person on and off the field. I'd say he's deserving of something, maybe not a retired number, but possibly being inducted in the ring of honor. I'd say he's deserved that.

He was a great player, and an even better person which is why I believe his number should be retired. When you retire a number it is because you couldn't see anyone wearing that number again and living up to the individual that wore it previously. Well to be honest I don't think any Panther will ever be able to block like Moose or be able to complement Smitty like Moose did. Please read his credential's so you can understand what this man has done.

Here are some of Moose's credential's

2004 Led the NFL in Touchdowns with 16

2004 Pro Bowl

2004 AP All-Pro

2004 College & Pro Football Weekly All-Pro

2004 Football Digest All-Pro Second Team

2004 Pro Football Weekly All-NFL

2004 Pro Football Weekly All-NFC

2005 Led the Chicago Bears in Receiving

2006 Led the Chicago Bears in Receiving

Ranked #1 in Receptions for the Panthers

Ranked #1 in Yards for the Panthers

Tied #1 in Touchdowns for the Panthers

Ranked #2 in 100 Yard Games for the Panthers

Ranked #2 in Longest Reception for the Panthers

Ranked #2,3 for the most Receptions in a single season for the Panthers

Ranked #3 in Scoring for the Panthers

Ranked #3 for the most Yards in a single season for the Panthers

Ranked #3,4,6 for the most Yards in a single game for the Panthers

Ranked #5 in Yard's Per Reception for the Panthers

Was Commentator for NFL Europe during 2002 and 2003 offseason

Won a Chicago Emmy Award for Outstanding Achievement for Sports Programs

Now if these statistics won't get your number retired then I don't know what will, and if somehow his number doesn't get retired......well then I would hate to be the player that has to suit up in #87 on Sunday's because he has some big shoes to fill.

If we set it too low, we'll run out of jersey #'s and bronze...

Moose was a great player, and I will miss him, but to put him on a Sam Mills level of importance to the Panthers is a tad undeserved...

Kasay probably should get one, and Smitty should too... Smitty probably won't though because of his bad moments... and if you don't give Smitty one, there is no way in hell Moose gets one...

Totally disagree. Moose so far is the best receiver we've ever had on this team. As far as position, # of years and leadership, yes I'd put him up there with Sam. We had a serious drop in production when Moose wasn't here. Him and Steve ran all over the Patriots in the Super Bowl. I see a lot of Moose in Smitty after watching Janglers video. We owe him A lot.

 MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSE !!!!!!!!!

I LOVE Muhsin Muhammad, but I can't justify giving him a statue because of his stint with the Bears. That's absolutely not a knock on him because he absolutely had the right to do whatever he wanted, but I would like to reserve a freaking statue (which I think carries MUCH more weight and honor than a number retirement does...statues are actually worshiped in some cultures/religions) for someone that always played for the Panthers when given the opportunity.

I agree with you there. I say retire his number but save the statues for later.

I love me some Moose, but no statue and the Panthers don't officially retire #'s.

#51 is retired for Sam Mills, I think no player's would be a better second retired number than Moose's. No statue yet, but immediate entry to the team's Ring of Fame.
