Press conference today to announce Moose's retirement

One of my best Moose memories was when Walls used to do that thing where he spiked the ball and shot at it with an imaginary gun... I forget which game it was, but Walls had just scored a TD, and Moose came running in and said "Do it Wes! Do it!" and Walls proceeded to do the gun thing... At the same time, Moose was copying him, and shooting at the ball while making a machine gun sound...

Statue and number, why not? He was awesome on and off the field. Was one of the early Panthers, etc. 10,000 yards is a pretty good feat. Not to mention is blocking which won't show up on stat sheets, but if you add all the rushing TD's and things like that that his blocking helped, it would be a big number.

He's the type of player you wish could play forever. I just hate that they let him go to Chicago for a few years.

Don't ya mean, ya wish he wasn't so all about the money that he would have been willing to stay here for less money, instead of getting over paid in chicago? Lol

Look, before he was sent to Chicago, the team owed him a $10 million roster bonus, something that wasn't possible with the cap space and money needed to sign draftees. If I recall, he signed with Chicago for the $10 million anyway.

We should have kept him, we needed him, but it just wasn't in the cards.

Seriously, though, he's got to be considered one of the great Panthers, and a real lunch pail kind of player. He wasn't a diva, he just worked at what he did and threw blocks downfield like few receivers have done before.

Good fellow, good player, good part of our franchise's history. Retire the number with the man, and get a big bronze statue of the Sports Illustrated cover photo made.

lol... who's next? Hoover?

If Moose doesn't get one then who? Jake and Peppers are gone and Smith or Kasay would be the only ones. Not many guys play over a decade for one team. With free agency and moving from team to team if we set the standard too high we might never have a statue or number retired. We are still young but honestly we haven't had anyone in the last decade.

If we set it too low, we'll run out of jersey #'s and bronze...

Moose was a great player, and I will miss him, but to put him on a Sam Mills level of importance to the Panthers is a tad undeserved...

Kasay probably should get one, and Smitty should too... Smitty probably won't though because of his bad moments... and if you don't give Smitty one, there is no way in hell Moose gets one...
