World Cup is here

I'm not saying they took my idea when I suggested it, but I emailed ESPN and MLS a few times a couple of years ago on marketing the sport/ their league better. I told them to get some games on a Thrs night. That's a good college football night, start the weekend early etc.

But they gotta figure out the season timing and their champ game. It's on a Sun at or near NFL.

They need to see if they can have the champ game the weekend before college football starts or during the break between conf champ games and the bowls. Something to where most eyeballs are ready.

What about attendance at the games? Do they have special rates for groups of kids and things like that?

My nephew played soccer for two years, but he's already moved on and is into baseball now. I feel like if we had a viable professional league with name players (and how do you get name players? More goals), a lot of these kids whose first venture into sports is soccer would stick with it. I wanna be like so-and-so, instead of ARod or Steve Smith.

I know the more scoring thing is nails on the chalkboard to you diehards, but seriously, what's wrong with an average score of 5-4 instead of 2-1? Would you really have to sacrifice the soul of your sport?

I'd say SEC football probably historically has an average score of 17-10 (pretty much 2-1). Nobody's asking them to open it up.

You can have 5-4 games all the time. Just have guys stop playing defense. That's what the NBA did (their attendence has gone down, btw).

My advice to everyone is watch a full year or so of soccer before you try to "fix" it.

There's nothing to fix. Well besides the diving.

ive never watched an entire MLS game. I cant get into it either. To me, it seems like watching minor league baseball. I should give it more of a chance i guess.

But im a casual fan. Ill watch some EPL, La Liga, Serie A, but not a ton.

If a World Cup game is on, and im able to Ill watch it. Ive watched a majority of the group stage.

The diving is out of control for some squads and I question the manhood of some of the fools out there writhing in "pain." I'm proud to say our Yank squad does the least amount of diving of any of the teams that I've seen play.

I'd say two possible "fixes" I have are goalline cameras (The NFL needs the same damn thing) and an extra ref.

Post match reviews giving hefty fines for diving would be nice too.

How about an eye in the sky for offsides? Seems they mess that call up a lot, at least in World Cup.
