Reading more about this France thing, though the original source of this is The Mirror, so take it with a grain of salt.

It seems Ribery had set up a night out for the French team, at a venue of Ribery's choice, which unsurprisingly turned out to be a Gentlemen's Club.

Yoann Gourcuff said he just wanted to chill out and watch TV that night but he was fine with everyone going without him. This pissed Ribery off, inspiring him to ask "Will your mother not all you to go you homosexual slut?"

These two don't get along to begin with, Ribery doesn't like Gourcuff because he's quiet and thoughtful -- that'd be funny if it wasn't true, Ribery thinks Gourcuff is snotty because of this, but by most accounts he's just introverted.

Anyway, that was apparently one of the flashpoints.

france just looked pathetic leading up to the cup. lost to china, tied tunisia, got spanked by spain. the last decent victory they had was a 3-2 victory over sweden in august 2008. i've got mexico going a long way, although i picked them to win the group, therefore not playing argentina in the round of 16. we'll see.
