HOW was TD allowed to practice?

Front office wanted to give something for the fans...

After losing Pep, Harris, Diggs, & Lewis...They needed to give us guys something to cheer about defensively.

Yes, we still have Beason and some key pieces, but lets be real...We are young and inexperienced in some important spots on the D. And our org was getting hit hard in the media for it.

HE WAS RUSHED BACK BY THE FRONT OFFICE...

this argument makes no sense. our organization wasn't getting hit hard in the media because thomas davis wasn't backpedaling solidly yet. we might've had a few pieces written about lack of leadership on defense, but since when does this front office give a poo what fans and media think about decision-making?

nobody was going to cheer because thomas davis was working in OTA's. all signs point to the coaching staff believing that davis was well enough to play carefully in OTA's and let him. say what you want about the doctors who cleared him, but suggesting pressure from the media/situational morale is abject stupidity.

no injury would have happened if players weren't allowed to practice

You love that guy.

EDIT: Back-to-back posts in two separate threads; I can tell the forum is slow this time of year.

Don't think it was bad luck. Rather, a bad decision by the medical staff. The ligament wasn't ready, as we unfortunately now know.

I don't think this is the first time this medical staff has made bad decisions. Been saying it for a few years, we need an upgrade.

Here's how:

TD - "Yo coach I'm ready to practise NOW."

Fox - "How's the knee feel?"

TD - "It feels mother#$%^ great."

Fox - "Then why were you limping earlier?"

TD - "Cuz I was giving it to my wife and I fell off the bed."

Fox - "Alright then get out there you sob!"

The previous exchange was a lame dramatization of an event that never actually occured.

Not a doc, certainly not an NFL player, however if I had to guess, TD was over anxious to get back onto the field, and rushed it a bit.

I would assume that almost all NFL players, especially ones playing on their first contracts do this to all injuries. Now after the second (largest usually) payday, they begin to slow things down, to preserve their career.

Bad luck, and bad timing (CBA), or things may be much different.

Get ready for the mob as they try to tell you that you don't know sh** despite that its been known that it usually takes a good 9 months to recover from a ACL tear that requires surgery. My guess is Davis played off some of the pain to the docs and they believed him. Davis was really eager to come back and play and I think he rushed it a little too much. Still, its the coaches responsiblity to handle these sort of things. He JUST had this injury in November. I can still remember what I was doing on Thanksgiving like it was yesterday. I believe he shouldve been kept resting until AT LEAST training camp or beginning to mid August. Just because he's an athlete doesn't mean his tendons are made of steel.

Yeah, I'm sure that's how it went down. Just like you were sure that it was hurneys fault that he let davis sign his tender, even though the panthers were on the hook for the money since davis signed his insurance clause to be apart of the off season workouts and such.

You don't have a clue, but you sure are going to be upset that it went down like you think it did.

Yes, davis came back quick. Some people heal faster than others. Hell, maybe he's been taking HGH!

He was cleared to return to practice. He had been doing the same practices for weeks.

Sucks he tore it again. poo happens man.

I don't have a medical degree but I did have the surgery and rehab so I can tell you what the experts told me. Recovery is an individual thing. How much trauma you had to the rest of the knee, what shape you are in before the surgery, how hard you work, and your own recuperative powers all vary from one individual to another. So to say it will take 9 months or 6 months or a specific date is quoting the average of everyone who has the surgery not for example pro athletes who typically need less time.

Listening to the patient and doing tests of the joint is the best and only way to see how rehab is going. The patient is experienced the pain and is the best person to report it. There are also previous records with Davisa bout strength, flexibility, etc to compare to from presurgery. And finally the staff would be foolish to rush him back if they thought there was a risk for reinjury. they have millions invested in him and don't want to screw up. From most accounts the Panthers are very conservative in bringing guys back like they do with concussions and the rest.

People who blame the staff are obviously mad that Davis is hurt and looking for a scapegoat. Sometimes things happen and there isn't anyone to blame. To say that they would hurry him back and risk his future to appease fans angst about the offseason moves is ridiculous.

Agreed completely. And thank for for sharing you first hand experience.
