Have you experienced anything unexplainable/supernatural?

I get deja-vu a lot, to the point that when it happens I can tell you what is going to happen next, and it always does.

Man, I constantly get Déjà vu. It's one of the weirdest things. Sometimes I can also say what will happen next, but more often than not it's just like I have the feeling that it's happened, and then with each thing that happens thereafter I become all the more sure it's happened before.

When I was about 13, my Dad bought an old tavern up in Ashe County. The place was huge and had been built just after the Civil War. He got it in a foreclosure sale and the family spent about a year and half restoring it.

I remember peeling away layer after layer of wallpaper in what would become my bedroom on the second floor while we were doing the restorations. Quite a few layers down we came to a layer of nothing but old newspapers, dating from the 20s and 30s. We still have the front page of the Charlotte newspaper that had the story of Charles Lindbergh's baby being kidnapped. The attic had tons of other treasures like old advertising posters, old toys and tobacco tins.

It wasn't until a year after we moved in that we found the hidden wine cellar in the crawl space. My Dad went under the house to check on the furnace and saw way back in the corner a room that had been dug out to about an eight-foot depth, gravelled in with shelves along the walls, a few old jugs here and there. The ceiling of the room showed a trap door that had been floored over above years before.

I say this so you'll know that this place was lovingly restored (my father is a home designer and cabinet maker) and beautiful. We put a lot of work into it. And yet, it was always, unshakeably spooky. And things did happen there, but not Amityville Horror kind of stuff, more just spooky incidents.

One autumn, my Dad was outside cutting pieces of styrofoam to block up the crawlspace vents before winter. (The tavern was on a lonely hill and caught wind something vicious... so moaning wind was something we got used to really quickly). He'd been working under the rhododendrons that were up against one side of the house when dark fell and he went in for the night. While he was emptying his pockets before bed, he realised that his pocket knife was missing. Now my father had always collected Case pocketknives and he would never leave one laying around, so he went back outside with a flashlight and searched everywhere for it. Nothing. And he didn't find anything the next day in broad daylight either. The knife was just gone.

He went on about his business and chalked it up to one of those things. About two weeks later, my step mother starts yelling for him from the top of the main staircase (the house had two staircases -- one gorgeous one at the front door and a second "servants" staircase at the back of the house that was very narrow). He came running, thinking she had slipped and fallen on the stairs and found her pointing at the very top riser. There was his pocketknife stuck straight up and down on the tread. It hadn't been jammed in there, but it was just stuck like it had been dropped point first from about waist height.

Now for the back stairs, they had their own story, but much shorter. Basically, none of our dogs would ever use them, even though they were carpeted and an easier climb for them. Those dogs would have rather ran to the other side of the house, go slip sliding down the main stairs and run all the way back to the other side of the house, just to get to the room below.

I've got another story of the house for later, that's funny, but in closing I'll say that when I was helping my Dad move out of the house a decade later, he told me, "Son, that house is cursed. Every single owner of the place has either died young there, gone crazy or gone bankrupt." It was sold at a foreclosure auction a week later. The next folks stayed for less than a year.

I heard a voice once, from someone or something that wasn't there, that directed me to a specific Bible verse... I posted about it here...

Once when I was a kid and home alone, I distinctly heard footsteps coming up our wooden basement steps... It was basically someone or something stomping up them... I ran out of the house and to my grandpa's next door... We searched for any signs of a b&e, and there were none, and there was nobody down there... I think I posted this story here before too...

I've had plenty of other things like that on a spiritual/ghost level, but never anything extraterrestrial... except...

One time, a friend and I were talking about them over the phone, along with other things like Dubya (President at the time)... I was all like "Man, ETs probably are real, and work alongside our government, or at least communicate with them... Hell, they are probably even listening to us right now"... At that EXACT moment, there was an unnatural screeching sound over the phone, followed by a click or two... It freaked us both the hell out...

All that said, I'm not sure I believe in ghosts, nor extraterrestrials... lol...

Hasn't your wife been on here and said differently? Or do I have you confused with someone else?

Yes, she swears that I saw the same thing she supposedly did. Figure of my Grandfather (who had just passed) in our doorway of our first apartment. I saw nothing but she tried to convince me that I did. Somehow that story is now told that we both saw it which is not the case.

We were 19 years old with a 5 month old child, just married, and moved 600 miles away from all friends and family. Pretty sure that was her way of reassuring herself that someone was watching out for us.
