Panthers LB Thomas Davis tears another ACL

For those of you bitching and moaning about Davis signing his tender:

First, the Panthers would lose so much respect with the players if they pulled the tender from Davis after the injury. No Panther would cut them a break in negotiations until that memory had faded. It isn't acceptable business practices to pull some stunt like that. This is no different for rookies that get hurt before they sign their contracts- the team still gives them fair market value regardless of the injury.

Second, it is possible that Davis had signed an injury protection agreement anyways. Possibly the Panthers would have been on the hook for his salary regardless of whether he signed the tender anyways.

I don't think anyone is undertanding this, so I am posting it again.

I am with KillerKat on this one, it was not a wise move to sign him after his injury had taken place. and I will use this quote as the basis of my argument.

Quote:

I was talking to SLJ earlier today about siging a LB that was a RFA and here is what he had to say.

So if this is indeed true, we could have waited to see how he was feeling next year and if he looked good then sign him. I just don't think it was very wise to sign a guy that won't be playing this year unless we make it to the Super Bowl.

Not really.

If we don't give him a offer then he becomes an unrestricted free agent. If we do give him an offer then he cant play anywhere else but here unless some team signs him to an offer sheet and we don't match it.

Everyone is freaked out because this is the second tear on the same knee. I only know of one NFL player that has even tried to return to the field after tearing his ACL twice and it was Dusty Dvorack and long story short he never saw the field again.

Willis McGahee came back from his injury...thats the worst knee injury I have even seen. I am not sure about re-signing him..and it sucks!!

Davis is one of the best under the radar LB'S in football.

This so sucks!

So your saying that it happened one time you are aware of in the NFL and beause he didn't come back then Davis won't either?

Did I get that right??

No one is going to sign a guy on IR.

Uh he was tendered in March. Once they tender him he plays for us or no one. It's not like they had a crystal ball to see into the future. 32/32 teams would have done the same thing.

I think the CBA prohibits teams from cutting players due to an injury. I doubt the team had a choice either way.

No, I am saying that it is highly unlikely he will ever be the same. And it his hard to come back form one ACL injury, nonetheless two. I love your optimism but lets try to be realistic.

Man some of yall sound like the most ignorant whiney plie of bitches I have ever heard.

Crying about a class act who has dedicated himself fully to this team and your whining about him signing his tender.

I know lets kick a guy off the team, not give him any money, and leave him hurt and jobless; that will really get the lockeroom inspired and build the players' faith in the orginization.

I know this is the internet but try and show some godamn integrity.
