Panthers LB Thomas Davis tears another ACL

I am with KillerKat on this one, it was not a wise move to sign him after his injury had taken place. and I will use this quote as the basis of my argument.

I was talking to SLJ earlier today about siging a LB that was a RFA and here is what he had to say.

So if this is indeed true, we could have waited to see how he was feeling next year and if he looked good then sign him. I just don't think it was very wise to sign a guy that won't be playing this year unless we make it to the Super Bowl.

At the time the tender was assigned to him, he was recovering well. A one year tender is not a waste of money. But right now, everything coming from you is a waste of time an effort.

Ever heard of taking care of your own?

Whether you agree with it or not, Davis had already earned well more than the money he has already gotten, and will continue to get from the Panthers this year.

So go ahead, throw your bitch fest dude. One of these days you'll understand that the Richardsons are NOT cut throat like you are.

Im not upset at Davis about the tender issue. Just Hurney letting him sign it after he just went down again. The only person we should be paying to not play for us is Delhomme. Thats the money Im thinking about now. Add that 3 mill to the money we have to pay Delhomme to not play for us.

Long and the short of it -- freak injuries happen, and athletes push themselves to return as quickly as possible, often risking further injury.

Right about now, that trade for Jamar Williams should be looking really good. If you don't think so yet, wait until midway through the season and by then you'll be impressed.

At TD's age he will recover from this and move on. Maybe it won't be with us but we stuck with Jenkins for 2 years on IR so we might. There are guys who have recovered from multiple ACL surgeries and come back. It isn't like he had a history of injuries before last year. We will also be able to replace him like we did last year. The problem isn't one player get injured but injuries at key positions or where we have little depth.

People kept giving me crap when I worried about Davis coming back and returning to form after injury. I would have been glad to be worrying for no reason but we have had our shares of injuries in the past 3 years. Hopefully Irvinand Louis don't follow suit. We can't absorb too many of these things as inexperienced as we are on defense this year.

Word on the street is that Irvin isn't impressing anyone so our work might be cut out for us.

No matter what types of drills they were running (contact or no-contact), why was TD allowed to participate without wearing a knee brace? I have never been around or seen anyone recovering from any ligament injury who isn't require to wear one...

I dont give a fook what you geniuses think.

We just spent $3 1/4 million on a guy that will never see the field for us again when we could have been cautious and waited on a diagnosis, given him some sort of comp and moved on with a couple million to sign a FA in his place.

Does anyone know the avg time frame/steps that are normal to recover from this injury? Was the pace he was at normal? It seems like a lot of you think his chances of recovery now are slim and he'll never be the same?

Everyone is freaked out because this is the second tear on the same knee. I only know of one NFL player that has even tried to return to the field after tearing his ACL twice and it was Dusty Dvorack and long story short he never saw the field again.

I don't think anyone is undertanding this, so I am posting it again.

I could be mistaken but I don't think that you can rescind a tender offer once it is made because a player gets injured. So we had no recourse once we offered it to him. The only recourse is offer him an injury settlement which is the same as releasing him and can be done at any time.

As for the argument that we shouldn't offered him a tender offer because he got injured last year, that is ridiculous. For every guy that suffers a reinjury like Davis did, tons more recover fully and play. Look at Connor for example, he recovered from his knee injury and is expected to likely start now.

We didn't sign him long-term but only tendered him. In this case holding out on a long-term contract seems to be a good idea.
