Panthers use the Schwartz and they're impressed

Sometimes change can be good, especially when it means going from backup to a potential starter.

That’s one of the reasons second-year offensive lineman Geoff Schwartz is excited the Carolina Panthers are giving him a look at right guard, even though it’s a position he’s not all that familiar with.

At 6-foot-6 and 331 pounds, Schwartz’s build fits that of an offensive tackle.

“There are some teams with big guys,” Schwartz said. “It’s not common, but it’s not unheard of. If I’m able to play guard that is even better for me because it makes me more valuable.”

He's in the competition.

He was supposed to be really good coming out of college. And this offseason he should've been the #1 choice to replace Vincent. Instead they have a undrafted guard and have to bring in a backup RT as competition for the RG spot and you hear more about those 2 than Duke because evidently he hasnt been as impressive as he should be.

I hope magazu doesn't get snarch up a coordinator position or anything.

This is why year in and year out our O-Line is one of the best in the league. We have solid starters and versatile backups all due to Dave Magazu.

I think Mackensy got the nod over Robinson b/c he had been with the team one season prior and Robinson wasn't ready. I do believe Robinson is starting material but he isn't the best backup we got.

Go Panthers

If you were watching last year, Schwartz really didn't do that good of job at RT last year. He missed a lot of blocks and got a lot of help from TE's, interior linemen and backs.

He didn't implode, but he certainly didn't shine. If Jake had been back there, it would have been more disaster.

Schwartz played so well at tackle that he may have played his way out of a starting guard position... we need to hold him in reserve as backup tackle, it would be a shame to see him get hurt as the starting guard and then have one (or both) of our tackles go down again.
