I wonder If we all are worried about the same thing.

Our run def. and not too much the sweeps and off tackle plays but the runs up the middle the dives the counters. Pass rush might be a big issues but I like our option there better then the DT situation. I'm not even worried about the Offense. (I maybe more sure about the offense then I've ever been.) Saying this do any of you think that Jerry can open up the wallet a inch and maybe give John Henderson a call? This would give me and alot of you more confidence in this def. One good thing about Preseason is if we see this is going too be a problem we can get somebody before the regular season starts. This is my question if we start getting run over in the preseason (which we will get tested against the Ravens, Jets, Steelers, and Titans) will Jerry spend the money on a DT or will he atleast bring Hollis back?

The run defense will be fine. The pass rush is what people should worry about.

I actually like the option at pass rush we have now. CJ will be starting and has been getting sacks in a part time role. EB is bigger and has more pass rushing moves then JPep. Plus now with the rookies Norwood and Hardy we have pass rush specialist like Al wallace.

But like I was trying too say or ask is if we see some issues on def. in the preseason will Jerry open up the wallet to get some help?

he never has before, so I don't really think so. He didn't do it last year and we were getting destroyed without kemo.

The FO will look into some players as the cuts start happening but that's it.

I don't really think Brown can do anything better than Peppers at the moment. There isn't a single part of his game I can think of that is better. Maybe his initial burst off of the line but that's a big maybe.

No EB is not better then Pep that's not what I was saying. He has better pass rush moves. Like dipping your shoulder the burn and rip the spin. Pep just used a speed rush or a Bull rush he never really worked on his footwork or developed other pass rush moves. Watching tapes of EB you can see he knows alot more moves too get too the QB. This still doesn't mean he will be better then Pep because other player use more technic and still Pep natural ability is better.

Yeah I agree with KoolKat in that stopping the run middle is going to be an issue next year. Im not really sure how you can think that it's going to be less of a problem then pass def. If teams are ABLE to run on us then they will run on us. They wont bother to toss it up if we cant stop them at the line (well until we bite on the run so hard that there's no one covering).

Im excited to see what we've got in every other phase of the game but that D-line isnt looking like its going to seal any cracks. Of all the people on these forums, Im kind of surprised that more people dont think this is an issue.

To me this would be the #1 thing to look out for next season and hope we pick someone up once the new draftees work their way onto their rosters. It isnt gonna be Henderson, Kat, sorry mang. Jerry has already eluded to not picking any big names up. It'd be nice though. . yep.

Other things to look out for.

#2 WR (crazy that you guys still think DJ can step up and Lafell is a rookie for god's sakes - this is a major fahking problem.)

#3 QB (Matt Moore hasnt played enough for you guys to be making him out to be fahking Montana. Its embarrassing for Panther's fans to say such things in these other threads.)

We have a lot of young talent, with a good coach to coach them up.

Another thing I don't understand.

Pretty much everybody who knew Meeks, knew that our defensive line that we had (lets be honest, wasn't that great outside of Peppers, and the young guys) wasn't the type of dline that meeks has worked with in the past. Plus, we had an aging dline. We go young, which is something we've been needing to do, and get guys that fit Meeks system more, and now everyone thinks we'll be run over, and have no pass rush.

The Panthers didn't get all these young guys thinking they couldn't play. There is talent on the team. No, there isn't a true veteran outside of Brayton, but give the coaches the chance to get these guys coached up, and playing. As long as they play their assignments, I don't see the big cause for all this doom and gloom regarding the line.

Give them a chance to play, before you label them losers.

Strength is good, technique is very important. Just ask our center. He isn't the biggest guy, he's actually a lil small for the position, but he is an excellent technician.

That is what Meeks likes. Fast guys who have strength, and good technique. Smaller d-lines do tend to get run on, but that isn't always the case. When the defense executes well as a whole (see Meek's defense the year the Colts won their SB, as it was their defense that carried them there throughout the playoffs), the run defense should still be good.

I can also promise you that John Fox still believes in stopping the run. So that will always be a priority for our defense, regardless of the size, inexperience of our linemen, and the scheme being used.

    • 100% even if rest of team is really talented if they march young out to be qb and he plays like he has for 90% of his starts the panthers have already lost doesnt even matter how good the rest of the team is or isnt and also makes it hard to even tell how good they are.  They need true competition for young this offseason.
    • It will be awesome to have an improved stadium to lose in I guess....   https://www.yahoo.com/news/panthers-file-rezoning-bank-america-111500840.html     The Carolina Panthers have taken another necessary step toward renovating their home of the present and future. Panthers Stadium, LLC, filed its rezoning site plan with the city of Charlotte on Monday, initiating an important — if mostly technical — step toward renovating Bank of America Stadium. The filings state that the rezoning relates “primarily to technical aspects associated with improvements to Bank of America Stadium,” and that the rezoning is required because “the current stadium zoning is out of date” for the team’s stadium renovation plans.   The planned stadium updates include new seats installed throughout the upper and lower bowls; stadium safety and security enhancements; a reimagined South Lawn Pavilion; upgraded restrooms; exterior enhancements (including LED video boards) and more. Planning for the stadium renovation project will continue through 2025, with construction starting in 2026 and the renovation’s conclusion in 2029, The Observer previously reported.
    • In my dream, we somehow luck into a top 2 pick and someone wants a QB bad and doesn’t want anyone else to jump them. Somehow we’ll probably screw up the picks anyway, but it would be nice to do even partially what Chicago did to us. We’d have to lose out, which is a decent possibility unless Tampa is resting. We need Atlanta to stay within a game because Atlanta beat Tampa twice. The rest of the draft slots are who knows because Jax plays the Raiders and then Tennessee and you never know who will rest starters. I think we are top 7 unless we somehow pull out 2 more wins. The 4 win teams have higher SOS and there is only one 5 win team with the same SOS. If we win 1 of 3, we still should stay in top 7. If we lose out and the Jax games work for us, we can easily be top 3.
