Corbett might not be gone

The #Panthers have pushed back C Austin Corbett’s void deadline on his contract to March 11, a league source confirms. Over The Cap had the initial report. The push back gives Carolina and Corbett more time to negotiate a new deal. While it doesn’t guarantee anything, a new deal could also help save the Panthers cap space before the new league year. So, something worth monitoring.

his void year this year is 7 mill.  Another 3 mill next year

Rather have Mays re-signed (and cheaper) at this point.

I get where you are coming from for sure, but center is a critical position. Mays was not exactly lighting the world on fire and we have zero depth behind him. I’d be fine with signing Corbett to a team friendly deal or drafting someone. They are prob thinking that with as many holes as we have it would be nice to focus on other areas on the team with our draft picks this year.

How is any deal team friendly if he can't play?

Eh...depends on price. Corbett is a MILES better player than Mays but availability is an ability. Does it really matter?

Ideally, we get a real center(highly unlikely. IMO) and we jettison Corbett.

If it comes down to it, keep Corbett first because he is better(IMO).

Mays is a great backup option but, per normal, we Panthers fans WILDLY overrate him as a player. He's a bottom 10 starting center. He's a great utility backup OG/C, however.

Remember when some folks here declared the position a resounding success for years to come?

Good thing we didn't trade up into the 2nd round to draft an injured RB instead of taking a center 👀
