Just started FF7...

Make sure you grind whenever possible. Make sure you get the double growth weapons so you can level up your Materia very quick. There is a hallway in the Ancient Temple where you can farm massive amounts of AP with the double and triple growth weapons. Oh, and the enemies at that spot drop Turbo Ethers. Stay until you get 99 of those.

Make sure you stay away from Ruby and Diamond Weapon until you max everything out...

That works...if you want to get slaughtered by the end-game bosses.

This is the reason I've never been able to finish a FF game. I can't stand walking around slaying random monsters for hours on end so I can level up to get the one move I need to defeat the next boss. Probably my #1 gaming pet peeve.

I'm probably the only person alive who hasn't played it. Just downloaded it from PSN. Anything to watch out for?

The Midgar Zolom the first time you encounter, that mfer is tough if you don't cheat and use the Chocobo....also dont fug with emerald or ruby weapon till you have done some major grinding....

Wrong.

These games practically play themselves at the end. Grinding is a waste of time unless you want to fight the optional bosses which aren't challenging just grueling.

Really?

You must have never encountered Ruby Weapon. You can't beat him unless you spend countless hours grinding. He's challenging, to put it lightly.

I wouldn't call it cheating...in fact, I think it's what you're supposed to do; because the first time I played it I trained until I could beat the Zolom--and by the time I could I was level 30 and the rest of the game was hopelessly easy (save for the weapons)--which was fine for me because I care for the story more than gameplay anyway, but if someone does want a challenge then beating the Zolom the first time might not be the best way to go.

Not to mention Emerald: not only do you have to get a special materia for him, BUT, the way I beat him required leveling up Knights of the Round so that I could cast it twice (Tonberry's FTW), then leveling up "Pheonix" to AT LEAST four uses per battle, THEN leveling up Mime until it was complete and "spawned" another one (at least that's what I think happened). And it still took me half an hour to beat him.
