So I'm about 20 years late to the party, but I just saw this film tonight.

Is it the best horror film -- or at least psychological horror film -- of all time?

I submit that it is.

And Jangler, *SPOILER* IMO he died in Vietnam, and the entire film is either a hallucination he experiences while dying or his spirit's journey through the levels of some kind of purgatory, or the "ladder". Or both.

The hospital scene still freaks me out.

It's especially fun to draw parallels to LOST while watching it (heaven and hell, Jacob and Esau, etc.).

Great movie and Tim Robbins was excellent. This one, Shawshank, and Bull Durham are his best work to date.

Just watched it...I thought it was a good movie, started off pretty good...the last 30 mins it trailed off and I lost interest.

I like how it was shot as an older, gritty, mono-tone film.
