Stewart is younger. That tilts the vote to him.

Plus, every player has one season where they perform to a degree that they never match again.....we likely already saw DeAngelo's. Stewart has yet to have his.

I think lack of injuries is a toss up. I know D-Will missed the last 3 or 4 games last season, but Stewies Achilles has been a hinderance ever since he first arrived in Carolina.

Honestly if I had to pick one it would be D-Will because there are not that many runningbacks that can rely on speed and agility in the NFL. When I think of speed and agility the only one's that come to mind are Adrian Peterson, Chris Johnson, Thomas Jones, and DeAngelo Williams.

Now when it comes to big bruiser backs you have a lot more options and they are a lot more common in the NFL. In today's NFL you have guys like Steven Jackson, Maurice Jones-Drew, Jonathan Stewart, Ricky Williams, Ryan Grant, Cedric Benson, Rashard Mendenhall, Marion Barber, Matt Forte, Michael Turner, Brandon Jacobs, Beanie Wells, Kevin Smith, and Laurence Maroney.

I base my decision on which athlete is harder to find and in my opinion it is DeAngelo Williams.

SIDE NOTE: On a side note I would like the Panthers to cut Mike Goodson, Josh Vaughan, and Tony Fiametta and carry a loaded backfield.

RB- DeAngelo Williams (You already know him)

RB- Jonathan Stewart (You already know him)

RB- Daniel Porter (He was a stud in college and reminds me of AP)

FB- Tyrell Sutton (Proved he is a better option at FB than Fiametta)

FB- Rashawn Jackson (In my opinion he was the best FB in the draft class)

Doesn't say too much being that no FB was drafted. Could just show the shift of the NFL away from the Fullback. I wonder if Fiametta would have been undrafted too and we wasted a pick on him.

Call me stupid but I think back to back 1,000 yard seasons is pretty good.

Also people forget D-Will has only played 4 seasons in the NFL, he is not that old by any means.

I hate Fiametta, whenever he gets in the game I hold my breath.

If he gets the opportunity to run the ball he either fumbles or gets tackled for a loss.

If he gets the opportunity to catch the ball he drops it.

If he gets the opportunity to block for an RB he misses the assignment.

I think he is just a bad football player.

I don't think Williams is old. Stewart is just younger.

I was just commenting I doubt DeAngelo has a more productive season than his 2008 one.

I think in a straight line Stewart is faster than Deangelo, he takes longer to get up to speed but once he's there he's faster.

As far as inside I think they both are in a dead heat. Stewart runs over people while Deangelo kind of squirms forward. Stewart is stronger but the results are the same.

Outside I think Williams is better, Williams has far more lateral agility. Stewart is very elusive as long as he's moving forward. Deangelo can dance his way out of trouble, Stewart can't. Also Williams looks a lot more comfortable in the wildcat.

Vision - I think Williams cutbacks are very good. Stewart doesn't seem to cutback as much but it doesn't mean he has poor vision.

Receiving - hard to judge since neither of them are featured in the passing game at all. Tie.

3rd & short/Goaline situations I haven't seen anything to separate the two, but considering their attributes I would say Stewart. Fox will choose Williams every time though because he's more experienced.

Injuries is a tie as well. Stewart has never missed a game but he's constantly held out of practice as has had year long nagging injuries. Williams has missed games but has also had stretches of good health.

In the end I choose Stewart because he's 2 years younger. For immediate results I can't really say who I would choose.

I think you're right if only because if everything goes as it should I believe both backs should have about 1,100-1,200 yards and 20+ TDs between them.

D-Will did miss three games last season as where to the prior season he missed none. If I gave D-Will 86 yards per game for those three games he missed last season (which was his season average) he would have been up to 1,375 which is not a bad year. I think many beleive he had a drop off season from the year before because he did not reach 1,500. Well I don't beleive it was a drop off season considering he played 13 games and still managed to accumulate over 1,100 rushing yards.

I'm not sure that either back will have a career that is significantly longer than the other. Sure Stewart is younger--but his bruising running style will wear on his body faster than DeAngelo's. I saw a few times last year where DeAngelo, instead of taking a giant hit, dove the ball to get roughly the same yardage. Small things like that may add a year to his career.

If I'm John Fox, Marty Hurney, or Jerry Richardson, I'm gonna go with DW. For the simple fact that we've spent years trying to find an elusive back with DW's talent, and he's really the first one we've found. Yet, we've found several backs with bruiser-like running styles like Stewart's over the past ten seasons. Don't get me wrong though, Stewart is the best bruiser back we've ever had... but I'd go out on a limb and say we could find another one like him or close to his skill level in the next three or four seasons.

However, there's nothing better than having both on a team that mainly relies on the running game. It'd be dumb as hell to get rid of either one of these guys before they're too old to run it anymore. Should Fox get an extension, I see both of these backs retiring in a Panthers jersey!
