The Athletic’s Ben Standig reports Marty Hurney is no longer with the Commanders.

Hurney served as an advisor with the team in 2024 after being carried over from the Ron Rivera regime. Hurney, who turned 69 in December, was hired as the Commanders’ executive VP of football/player personnel in 2021 and relegated to his advisor role after the team went out and hired a new coach and general manager last offseason. With his contract now expired, Hurney is no longer with the Commanders and is free to sign with any team who may be interested in his services.

In the spirit of due diligence, I would want to see what he's learned and changed since being here, and how much of a factor he was in building this last team/drafting Jayden Daniels.

Isn't the first pick the easiest?  He chose positions, as a general rule, that were generally successful as rookies because the position did not take time to master--RBs, LBs, etc.  I was never a fan--let's not forget, he tried to trade up with the Rams to get the 33rd pick so he could take Clausen.  And he took Clausen after 2 teams, KC and Minn, who were desperate for a QB passed on Clausen--in rounds one and then again in round 2.  That same draft, he moved up to get Armanti Edwards....He traded away first round picks to get Otah and Everette Brown.  First round magic?

Yes. Morgan’s best picks were rd 3 and beyond. Hurney  nailed the first round.

Exactly. There’s no magic in taking the highest-rated guy who falls because his position isn’t the most valuable. If you want the Hurney pick this year, just grab the LSU tackle and put him at center. Instant All-Pro!
