Who Has to Be Off the Board to Trade Back?

@MHS831, lucky for you when I run my mocks Will Johnson is usually the top guy (not named Jeanty) left standing at #8.  I'm not crazy about drafting another guy coming off an injury even if it is a need position.  Apparently it's a chronic turf toe issue.  Isn't that an injury that lingers forever? I mean, it put him out most of last season.

Ah hell no. I'm good on him then.

Im all for defense. I’ll add Will Johnson and remove McMillian. While I’d rather have DL, two strong corners will allow for more safety help in the box, so it’s still a win for the run game.

This would be my answer as well - pretty much spot on agreed.  I have done a ton of mock drafts where we trade back to 12-14, pick up picks 44-46, and still get Jalon Walker.  To me that would be a massive victory if it is really possible assuming the previous are gone.  I have seen this on 3 different Mock Draft sites consistently.

Yes, but it isn't realistic

most of my best mocks do exactly this. walker plus another second gets some good DL rebuild going.

if McMillian and/or Campbell fall to 8, we should get some calls. someone might even go for Jeanty, assuming he’ll do for them what barkley has done for the iggles.

i think we’re in a good spot where, if someone we love falls to us, we’re not too far down for that to happen. if it doesn’t, the #1 WR, CB, LT, etc, who someone else loves will be there, and allow us to pick up some really good extra draft capital.

To clarify it was normally trading 8 & 113 for picks 12 & 44 - based on draft picks values it is very reasonable.  You may not feel it is realistic in the real world though I get that.  I am hoping it is.

I'm against trading down. I'm in favor of staying put and picking the best defensive player/contributor for our woeful defense.

However, if we could move down only 4 spots in round 1, come away with a midround 2nd round pick, and only have to give up a 4th round pick (which we'd probably use to pick a JAG), then I could actually stomach that.

That would give us 4 picks in the top 100 instead of 3! If we can't find 3 starters with a first round pick, two 2nd rounders, and high 3rd round choice for the worst defense in Panther's history, then it's time to get a new GM.

I am fully OK with smart trade downs - especially when you have as many needs as we do.  And don't sell our defense short - we weren't just the worst in Panther's history - we were the NFL worst OF ALL TIME!  And we seem to do alot better picking defensive players in the top 3 rounds than offense, so maybe we have a chance!

I always get sucked in to the trade down option. But I've reached the point where unless we're getting a future 1st, what's the point? Until we can show the ability to have a draft class top to bottom that contributes, meh to extra 2nd and 3rd round picks.

I think if we do go the extra 2nd and 3rd round picks, we need to be smart about who we take there. Offensive linemen, especially interior, are found right here and are about as certain a pick as you can get in this spot. We need to always be bringing in line talent, at least 2 players per year, one defense and one offense. If you can grab one of those top prospects, it's a no brainer. That way when the inevitable injuries occur, you're not trying to fill the gap with some late rounder or UDFA off the streets.

Wasn't so much talking about the trade as much as getting Walker at 11 or 12
