I'm trying so hard to like Hockey

This is true, but the energy was just gone. Their skate speed was just not the same. They were out skated in every game but game 3

In thier defense Cam Ward was battling a back injury during that series plus Ruutu missed the first couple of games if I remember correctly. They were pretty much doomed from the get go.

Two things work against Hockey....the speed and the low score.

Think about it....basketball can be fast paced and nonstop but it has the triple digit scores to show for it. Football is a slower paced game, but it balances it with a sense of stratagy and a decent ammount of scoring. Baseball has low scores, but those are accompinied with drawn out moments of suspense adding to the emphasis of each run scored.

Hockey meanwhile has everything happening at once: the speed of basketball, the stratagy of the football, and the emphasis of baseball but without the high scores that the action seems to warrent. Its a lot to take in with little to show on the stat sheets.

Football can be pretty low scoring as well. I was at game one that went into 1x OT when the Dallas Stars won the cup in 99 in 6 games, the last ending in 3x over time. It was pretty mind blowing but I still prefer NFL live, I just like the sport better even over a better 'live' experience.

If all you saw of a football game was a final score of 3-0, you'd probably almost automatically assume that it was a boring game full of mistakes before convincing yourself that is was an amazing defensive stuggle of legendary proportions.

Meanwhile, tell any hockey fan about a final score of 1-0 in double OT and they'll wish they had seen the struggle of each team and the clinic that the goaltenders put on before convincing themselves that it probably wasn't that great of a game.

My favorite sports to watch if its not my team:

1.) NFL/ College Basketball

3.) College Football

4.) NBA

5.) Soccer- World Cup/Serie A, Liga, and Premiership

6.) NHL

7.) MLB

This is just for tv though, I love all sports in person and look forward to seeing a Canes game next year.

I can't watch nascar for the life of me, but my friends who also hate it said going to a race is actually pretty fun.

Once you see a game in person you will get hooked for life! Hockey is the greatest live sport ever and nothing else comes close.

I've seen plenty of NHL games live and I wasn't hooked for life. I enjoyed them, but I wasn't hooked for life....

funny post simply because many Canadians think hockey hasn't caught on as big as it could be in the US because it's too fast for you to keep up!!!!!

Going to Hurricanes game is a lot of fun. I prefer football over hockey, but I would rather attend a Hurricanes gaem over a Panthers game.

I think we should rank who like in all our favorite teams, then rank them in order of attendance.

Favs

Carolina Panthers

Carolina Hurricanes

North Carolina Basketball

Charlotte Bobcats

North Carolina Football

Who I would like to see in person

North Carolina Basketball

Carolina Hurricanes

Carolina Panthers

North Carolina Football

Charlotte Bobcats

(I did not include Coastal Carolina, my alma mater, because I'm sure none of you know who that is)

the bad thing about hockey...it's fuggen expensive....41 home games, plus pre season, plus parking and refreshments....it adds up pretty damn fast

yup. i would go to a stanley cup game up here in philly but the cheapest tickets were $350 a piece. no hockey game is worth that.

i disagree with this whole post. the biggest thing working against hockey is no TV contract. tonight for example. the game is on versus. LOL

i also believe the season is too long.
