Four QB's - What do you think will happen?

Having just read an article from I think the Charlotte N&O, (about how Claussen hasnt beaten out Cantwell) I got to wondering how our QB situation is going to shake out.

Love Moore. I worry about 'rumours' that he isnt a 'football guy' - maybe it's his intensity level. His pedigree is much like Jake's was - low on everyone's radar. We got him from the Cowboys and when given his chance to really perform he did awesome. He has great zip on the ball. I also worry that if he was 'good' why wasn't he drafted higher.

Claussen - so he has what Moore didnt - and that is 'valued' as first round material. I havent seen a single game from him but I guess on paper he 'looks' like he has a chance of being a franchise QB.

Pike - I read alot about him once I heard that the Panthers liked him. It seems he is really raw, but I guess he has some qualities that might make him successful. Early reports says he is struggling.

Cantwell - The N&O report says Cantwell has held off Clausen. I just vaguely remember him in preseason games.

I really really don't want 4 QB going into the season. 3 I am comfortable with but really wish we had a veteran...someone who has been through the grind. Since we don't - I would say / hope Cantwell or Pike end up on the practice squad...but how can it be Pike since we drafted him?

I have also wondered if we drafted either Pike or Claussen for trade bait...but I don't remember any season where we did that before.

Moore has the start easy - but do you think he will be on a short leash? I mean if we think Claussen is our franchise we need to get him some reps. Sit a season to learn? From WHO? Moore??

I know locker room is big for Fox and Hurney. I mean it wasn't a coincidence that DWill says to a reporter "I think Jake should be our QB" and the next day Jake is gone. Fox and Hurney didn't want a divided locker room. I wish I knew a Panther player who could say what they think of our QB's.

again people, wait for training camp. nobody, is going to beat anybody out in OTA's.

training camp to see what we have, and preseason will set the lineup. i expect claussen to get the lion's share of preseason and wouldn't be shocked to see cantwell as the #3 although i think other teams could steal pike if he was placed on the practice squad (ala moore)

it will be up to pike to decide if he can be an upgrade over cantwell or not. i don't think he's as "raw" as many think, he just needs to learn the offense whereas clausen is already very familiar with it.

clausen will be the QB of the future. i'm in the camp of letting the future be now. i am also willing to wait and see what moore really has to offer with given a cance so unless claussen is just amazing in preseason... moore, clawesome, pike, cantwell will most likely be the order come the start of the season.

You don't have to worry about this. Sometimes, we don't even keep three.

clausen has already surpassed cantwell as the number 2...And about moore not being drafted earlier...Tom Brady was a 7th round pick if im not mistaken

Actually, Brady was a 6th round pick.

But I imagine we will go with 3 QB & the 4th one on PS. The #3 could be either Pike or Cantwell depend on who look better. We surely need a 4th QB in the PS in case something happend with both Moore & Clausen. We got rid of Dalton Bell by the time the '07 season started with having Jake, Carr, & Baz.

That was a Florio statement. All QBs take snaps with the number two team, Clausen didn't rise up the depth chart as PFW reported it.

QFT

I think that we'll end up with Moore as our starter, Clausen as our number two, and Pike as the third QB. Cantwell will be on the PS for another season, and it won't be because he's not as talented as Pike. It's all about trying to keep other teams from grabbing one of your guys, and he's the least likely to get picked up by another team.

And all of that will be decided during the preseason. Moore was a UDFA like Cantwell. But after a very good preseason his stock shot up and we plucked him from Dallas while they tried to stash him on the practice squad. Cantwell could do the same thing if he plays well in game situations. Pike seems more of a project at this point.

    • I don't care about offensive production for a team that literally only threw to him and the running back. I care about what I see on film:   Dude cannot separate on his own against talented LBs/S and had to be schemed open; his route running is below average; while pretty athletic, he doesn't have elite athleticism or speed; his blocking form has quite a few red flags (dude should be a dominant run blocker for his size). He was talented enough to get open in college against a slower LB/S; that won't be the case in the NFL. Not to mention, the dude pretty much was nonexistent until this year for Penn St. If I am drafting a TE in the top 10, choosing a 5th year senior that didn't do anything until his last season should be pretty alarming. Not saying he is going to be a bad player - I think he will be a solid short/intermediate possession TE in the NFL. I just don't understand the logic of taking him top 10
    • No one is arguing where we were on the season.  After the benching Bryce was one of the top deep ball passers in the league.  It's a skillset he has just shown he is capable of doing.  I believe he led the league in week 12 and was one of the top ones for that final quarter.  Dance around the topic and argue the stats all you want, I'm just going by what I saw on TV and read about.   https://x.com/PattonAnalytics/status/1877044086709854343 https://www.si.com/nfl/panthers/news/bryce-young-best-against-pressure-throwing-deep Hey it surprised me as well, but I'm not going to hide my head in the sand and try to ignore what is clearly right in front of me.  People have a hard time admitting their original thought may have been wrong.  That's just the world we live in.  We will see if Young can keep it up next year or not, but signs are point to DC running his offense regardless of who is QB.
    • You are right, but as of late there has been more rookie TEs making immediate impact on teams. McBride, Laporta, Kincaid and obv Bowers.  My true opinion is the team has so many holes they can go multiple directions including Safety. So it just comes down to out of all the talent in the draft who will make the immediate impact. Wr? TE? LB?
