How Many Sacks Will The Panthers Have In 2010?

The key to how effective the Panthers defense will be in 2010 is their pass rush, so what's your best guess?

Here is my list of the Panthers players I expect to have sacks this season, with what I think their probable range of sacks might be, followed by my best guess at their individual sack total.

DE-Everette Brown: 3-8 (6)

DE-Charles Johnson: 2-5 (3)

DE-Tyler Brayton: 2-5 (3)

DE-Greg Hardy: 1-5 (2)

DE-Hilee Taylor (if he makes the team) 0-2 (1)

DT-Tank Tyler: 0-2 (1)

DT-Louis Leonard: 0-2 (1)

DT-Corvey Irvin: 0-3 (1)

DT-Ed Johnson: 0-2 (1)

DT-Backup (Hayden, Landri, or Neblett) 0-3 (0)

LB-Thomas Davis 1-4 (2)

LB-Jon Beason 0-2 (0)

LB-James Anderson 0-2 (0)

LB-Dan Connor 0-1 (0)

LB-Jamar Williams 0-1 (0)

LB-Eric Norwood 0-3 (1)

DB's 1-5 (2)

TOTAL: 24

I hope I'm way off on this prediction (I graded very tight trying to be totally impartial), because they will need at least around 30 sacks for the defense to be very effective. If they slip to around 20 sacks (or lower) it could collapse, pulling the DB's and LB's down along with the D-Line.

What's your best guess?

i like your estimations, i don't see anywhere i disagree with you. if i had to change something i'd give the linebackers a few more. last year when we had early pass rush issues meeks starting bring davis and beason on blitzes (rather effectively i might add.) i could see beason and davis each notching a couple if that's the case, and whoever starts at ROLB as well.

I don't see the interior Dline getting many sacks, maybe 3 in total. But I hope Brayton, Johnson, Brown and Hardy (even maybe Norwood if they throw him in the DE rotation)..all wreak havoc. I think Beason and Davis will get a couple of sacks. Maybe a couple sacks from Richard Marshall...

So I'm gonna say 28 sacks total on defense.

We are playing some weak QB's and OLines. I think we will surpass many expectations.

The Rams, Bears and Seahawks have QB's and olines we can eat up.

The Steelers and Cardinals are also teams we could play well against. If the Browns play Jake we have a chance to do well also. We all know he is a statue back there.

Point is you are estimating less than all but 2 of the 32 teams accumulated last year.

Our revamped Dline is not comparable to the 09 Chiefs and Jaguars. In other words way too low.

DE-Everette Brown: 6-12 (9)

DE-Charles Johnson: 3-6 (5)

DE-Tyler Brayton: 2-5 (3)

DE-Greg Hardy: 1-5 (2)

DE-Hilee Taylor (if he makes the team) 0-2 (1)

DT-Tank Tyler: 0-3 (1)

DT-Louis Leonard: 0-3 (1)

DT-Corvey Irvin: 0-3 (1)

DT-Ed Johnson: 0-2 (1)

DT-Backup (Hayden, Landri, or Neblett) 0-3 (0)

LB-Thomas Davis 1-4 (2)

LB-Jon Beason 0-2 (1)

LB-James Anderson 0-2 (0)

LB-Dan Connor 0-1 (0)

LB-Jamar Williams 0-1 (0)

LB-Eric Norwood 0-3 (1)

DB's 1-5 (2)

TOTAL: 30-35 sacks

Where we will improve will be INT's. With a healthy Thomas Davis and getting Godfrey and Martin roving the backfield i see 22-30 ints. I say top 3 in INT's next year. Last year our offense was NOT keeping up there end of the bargain for much of the season. With a more fluid and efficient offense the defense will play better. I am going on record as saying we will be a top 10 defense once again and improve on ALL of our stats from last year except rushing defense.

Tyler Brayton- 5.0

Charles Johnson- 4.0

Jon Beason 3.0

Everette Brown- 2.5

Thomas Davis- 1.5

Nick Hayden- 1.0

Derek Landri- 1.0

Louis Leonard- 1.0

James Anderson- 1.0

Total- 20

My list above was from last year under their first year with Ron Meeks as the Defensive Coordinator.

I expect there to be a significant increase this year and would not be suprised at all if we reached 30.

Of course you can rule the Corner's and Safety's out because they don't blitz much, but we have some other guys that did not have a sack or are rookies this year that should contribute such as.... Greg Hardy, Tank Tyler, Dan Connor, Eric Norwood and Jamar Williams.

Then you have guys like Ed Johnson, Eric Moore, Hilee Taylor, Corvey Irvin, Jordan Senn, and Quinton Culberson that could possibly add a sack to the total.

It's hard to say, but honestly I think it starts with Beason's leadership followed by Tyler Brayton's, Everette Brown's and Thomas Davis's drive. If these four guys can take control of the Linebacker corp and the Defensive End corp then I expect great things from this defense this year.

I don't see Andre Neblett, Sean Ware, or Brett Warren even coming close to making the team so I left them off.

How is Nick Hayden going to get sacks from home?:D

    • I don't think Rodgers but probably not for the political reasons I bet a lot of posters are motivated by. I just think he is not the QB for the Panthers, at all.
    • Sun Devils just scored another TD on BYU, 14-0
    • It wasn't great but  the 2022 NYG won 9 of 16 games plus a playoff game. He had a 92.5 passer rating. 15 pass TDs 3200 yards, 7 rushing TD, 700 yards 6 fumbles 3 lost.  His first season he had 18 fumbles lost 11. Wow.  Anyhow he had problems in 2023 with injuries and didn't win poo before tearing his ACL. This year, no Barkley, not good, but you know.... these ACLs take a while and it was right and he throws right so pushes off of it.  I agree it doesn't hurt to let that guy compete cheap. You don't hand him the job like with Bryce or NYG with him.  When I look at what we have been saddled with, he doesn't look worse and has the physical advantage. So I don't get the umbrage given our situation. This "No we won't settle for anything less that the best" attitude and then taking Bryce Young was pathetic and I think that attitude brought us to where we are. That's where that poo gets you. Away from Mayfield, away from Darnold, even away from PJ - just to replace them with an inferior PJ.  At the same time I am not really advocating for the guy just looking at it objectively. It could be another guy with the same story. And yes the odds of him getting it are low but the numbers and performance from 2022 are for sure better than we see with Bryce even after a season of major propping him up with better players around him. Take a look don't take a look he fails or he doesn't fail...   to instead sit here and be happier with what we have is bullshit.
