I'm absolutely loving all this hate from the national media. I eat it up, and if I know this team as well as I think I do, I know they do too.

But apparently the 49er's are tier 2, Cardinals and Steelers are Tier 3, and Pat Kirwan is an asshat.

Well... if you're a true fan, like I am, you rank them in the top 5 (or #1 but I'll say top 5 just for discussion). I have them going 13-3, only losing to Baltimore, @ New Orleans, and @ Pittsburgh. Probably losing to the Vikings in the NFC Championship game, as it would be a home game should Favre return.. which means I have them ranked higher than the Panthers, finishing the season at 14-2.

I know some of you are probably asking, why is this idiot seriously even considering this? Well, if you think back over the past eight or so seasons that John Fox has coached here, he's brought in youth, and veterans have taught these young players how to play the game in short periods of time. Yes, we've lost a lot of veteran leadership this offseason, but we've also retained a large amount of young "veteran" talent that all already have at least three or four seasons under their belt. The 3rd year is usually where you see a lot of their talent flourish. Although they may not be in their 3rd year exactly, guys like Beason, Godfrey, Gamble, Davis and even Tyler Brayton on defense all ring bells. Guys like Gross, Moore, Otah, D. Williams, obviously Steve Smith, and Jonathan Stewart (in particularly). Yes, we have holes, but scattered across the board, with enough young veteran players to pick up the slack. 13-3 is not hard to imagine, considering we went 12-4 with Delhomme at the helm, going through a 22nd ranked schedule in 2008 before his Tommy Jon arm went ratard on him.

LMFAO! I got $1,000.00 on that right now! How about you?;) I got you with three losses by the 5th game!

Ranking pro sports teams is pretty stupid in general, imo. The difference between the best team and the worst team is generally not as large as most people would have you believe.

It's all about who's playing well at the right time. And that, my friends, is impossible to predict.

      Our defense hasn't been elite. That doesn't mean that an individual player hasn't been. All an elite CB can do for your defense is greatly limit the other team's best receiver or greatly limit the passing success to his side of the field if he's a zone guy. There's still a lot of opportunity for the opposing team elsewhere.  I'm not saying he's a Luke or a Peppers. He's not. But I think he's a top 10 CB when healthy. I consider a top 10 CB to be elite. If you have a different definition, that's fine. I'm not gonna really argue where we draw that line or even if you think Horn is saying top 15 instead of top 10. Again, fine. Not really gonna argue that either. All I'm really trying to argue is that Horn is pretty damn good when he's on the field.

      I'm not saying there's not a place for him here. I'm saying we massively overpaid for his skill set in today's NFL. Both statements can absolutely be true.

      Has he truly been elite? I don’t recall our defense ever looking good over Horn’s career. I mean, is there even a noticeable scoring difference when he’s healthy? We have always, always overrated our guys and it’s pretty damn rare we actually have a player like Luke that it’s true. I loved Cam and he was a monster at times but we (most of us) revere him for his special plays more than results. Outside of the special 2015, he won 1 playoff game against a 3rd string QB. Don’t get me wrong, Cam was unbelievable at times but he’s a great example of us overrating players. Just for shits and giggles, I checked points against. We gave up 25 ppg from 2021 to 2024. In Jaycee’s 37 games, we’ve give up 26 ppg. I’d say Brown is far more valuable as our points against went from mediocre to record breakingly bad.
